When the nation’s top dogs take center stage next week at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, viewers around the world will enjoy the event live via Ustream.
Dating back to 1877, the Westminster show is the second–longest continuously held sporting event in the United States, behind only the Kentucky Derby. Despite the WKC’s roots in the 19th century, it has embraced modern, high-tech communications with Ustream live video streaming to bring the action and emotions to viewers around the globe.
On Monday, February 16, beginning at 8 p.m. EST, the hound, toy, non-sporting and herding groups will be in the spotlight. On Tuesday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST, viewers will enjoy the sporting, working and terrier groups … and the highly anticipated Best in Show announcement!
Of course, the event entails far more action than can be captured on a single channel. That’s why the Westminster Kennel Club has dedicated 8 Ustream channels to bring you live action from every single ring, plus a live Twitter feed tracking the hashtag #WKCDogShow.
For a list of breeds, ring assignments and schedules, check out the 2015 Judging Program.
By the way, the Ustream team has a number of four-legged coworkers who will be watching and rooting online for their favorites. Here are the dogs of Ustream:
To follow all the action from the Westminster Kennel Club Dog show, visit any one of their channels (see list above) beginning at 8 p.m. EST on Monday!
When we launched Ustream for Change two months ago, we were overwhelmed with the positive response we received toward the cause. Citizen journalism had been at the core of the Ustream platform since the beginning, so creating a formalized program to educate and enable anyone who wanted to use live video for social change with the tools to do so, seemed like the next logical step.
After sifting through more than 170 applications, we are proud to announce that Miami-based non-profit Luz Para Venezuela (Light for Venezuela), will be our first member voted in by our internal committee.

Ustream for Change was created to advance Ustream’s mission to empower businesses and societies to be more transparent and productive through the innovative use of live video. Luz Para Venezuela demonstrates our mission by committing to provide real, un-edited coverage from the situation in Venezuela where the government has chosen to censor local and international media from broadcasting protests and civil unrest as it spreads across the country.

On this week’s Tech Thursday blog, I will take you on a “behind the scenes” journey to show where the magic of Ustream happens. Ustream Hungary moved to an incredible, new office in the heart of Budapest and will now show it to the public for the first time.
Take a tour in Ustream’s New Hungarian office and see where we work hard, dream big, and make Ustream happen!
Ustream has five main offices around the globe
On February 21st, 2014 the Hungarian Ustream office hosted its first internal hackathon.
In the previous blog post (What the heck is Hackathon?) we talked about the premise and importance of this 24-hour coding contest, and how it brings people together to collaborate on a common project. All in the name of one mighty goal – to make Ustream’s service better!
Not only the wide palette of ideas, but the team names themselves were injected with a healthy dose of creativity. We had Cougar Petting Trolls, A-Team, Geolition, The Fruit Loops, Screamo Mariachis, Call of Duty and Red Ducks, just to name a few.
But, lets take a look what they were working on. Here are the 11 project and ideas:
Streamsquare social network (Cougar Petting Trolls):
People go to places and check in on Foursquare, but from now they can broadcast the venues they are at, so others can see what is actually happening there. People get points and badges based on the time they spend there and the feedback from users who saw their streams.
In 24 hours they have developed a working web and native Android and iOS application prototypes and won the Hackathon competition!
The future of online video advertising is changing before our eyes, as advertisers seek technology solutions to reach consumers in more interactive and engaging ways. Video ads in general are even more successful when live content is included, in comparison to video-on-demand (VOD). Ustream, the leader in the live video space, introduced LiveAd last year, a game-changing advertising solution for brands and companies that fuses live video and traditional display advertising.

The live video production market is rapidly evolving and broadcasters need responsive tools that can keep pace with the changing industry. Consumer needs are constantly shifting in terms of video-consumption, which presents some adoption challenges for broadcasters.
In response, Ustream has been working closely with Telestream to develop and deploy an industry-leading solution, to meet today’s video production demands and prepare for future needs.
Last week, Ustream released the newest version of Producer.
Box Breaking has become big business over the last year. Even sports card manufactures, like Topps and Panini America, have taken notice; showing signs of encouragement for some of the top box and case breakers. By adding the element of live video, box breaking has become an innovative facet of the sports card hobby, revolutionizing the game of card collecting.
The People’s Choice Awards made major buzz in the Entertainment universe last week, engaging fans around the world with the power of live video.
