Ustream Pioneer Tori Amos Back Again!

Tori Amos, an early Ustream broadcaster, returns back to the platform with another live webchat with fans, tomorrow, Wednesday July 23, 4 pm PDT / 7 pm EDT. Be sure to ask her about her innovative new project dropping the same day, “Comic Book Tattoo”, a stunning 480-page graphic art treatment detailing Tori’s catalogue of music, as interpreted by the best and brightest comic book artists.

Ms. Amos appearance is not just another artist webchat for Ustream, because Ms. Amos is not just another artist for Ustream. Tori and her visionary management team hosted her first webchat back in October of ’07, a mere half-year after Ustream launched early beta. Tori was the first recognizable “name” in entertainment that the Ustream team could proudly point to as a testament to what we were doing. At the time, we were the live video platform of choice to the early adopter tech circles, presidential candidates… and Tori Amos. It was one of Ustream’s first major successes, and introduced the live experience to a wholly new group of viewers.

The orange-haired screenshots of Tori on the Ustream player became the go-to image for many a Ustream collateral and one-sheets. In the 9 months since Tori’s last session, countless household names in entertainment have passed through the silver screens of Ustream’s Flash video player, including 50 Cent, Hannah Montana, Jessica Simpson, Switchfoot, Johhny Knoxville… and the list goes on.

But Tori was one of the very first. For that, we roll about the red-carpet for her prodigal return. Join us Wednesday, 7/23 in welcoming Tori back!

What does Shinedown and Jessica Simpson have in common?

Shinedown came, they saw, they chatted, they recorded. As I type this, they’re rocking out a sold-out crowded venue in Houston, having just chatted out thousands of fans in a crowded room in Ustream.

Here’s the vid:

Free .TV show from Ustream

Also, some fun screencaps of Shinedown shenanigans:

Now go buy there album — The Sound of Madness — and tell ’em Ustream sent you!

Special thanks to the good folks at Atlantic Records… you know who you are!

And on the complete opposite end of the musical genre spectrum, Jessica Simpson has graced the screens of Ustream players worldwide last week, via the good folks at KFrog Radio. Here’s the proof:

You pick topic, MC Lars spits verse

You can always tell a first time Ustream.TV viewer by the following chat query: “Is this really live?”

You almost feel the “WOW!” when the broadcaster immediately replies the affirmative. It’s the magic of the real-time interaction during the content creation process, as I’m sure Ustreamers are well aware.

This Tuesday, June 10, starting at 6 pm Pacific, your favorite post-punk laptop rapper, MC Lars, takes the concept of real-time interaction to ridiculous new heights. Join MC Lars for a first-of-its-kind RAP FREESTYLE SESSION, where MC Lars will be rhyming to the topics YOU submit in the chatroom. It’s as if you were in MC Lars’ cypher yourself. How cool is that?

And as if that wasn’t enough, MC Lars is bringing out Political hip-hop group AR-15 and Central California rapper MNP/film director/Brooks Academy graduate Tim Thompson to join in on the freestyle festivities.

This will be an inaugural show in a series of live freestyle sessions, so come and show your support.

The more ridiculous your topic, the more likely you become a co-producer of his next freestyle recording! If you absolutely can’t make it, leave your topics in the comment, and we’ll have Lars try to throw it into the mix.

The British Invasion

As music lovers in the United States are sure to know, the UK and the States have a long, storied history of musical exchanges. Ever since The Beatles came crashing from beyond the Atlantic waves, the States’ music scene would never be quite the same. From the first wave like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, to the 80’s new wave like Duran Duran and The Cure to even the stars of today like Amy Winehouse, Muse and Coldplay… we all have our favorite UK artist; who’s yours?

Now thanks to Ustream, you don’t even have to wait for the plane to touchdown to watch your favorite Uk bands of tomorrow, live and in the moment.

We have two special performances in store today Wednesday, June 4, both featuring the stylings of emerging UK artists of today.

One has already landed a heady U.S. gig at Ustream stalwart radio station, Sophie’s Lounge, based in San Diego:

Smooth-strumming UK chart topper Newton Faulkner is set to appear for a performance @ Wednesday, , June 4, 1 pm PT / 4 pm ET.

And for those of you who like to know about the music giant of tomorrow extra early (like myself), our UK tastemaking friends at and Kruger Magazine bring to you the a live show from Camden London, with headliner Modernaire. This gem starts at Wednesday, 12:00 Noon PT / 3 pm ET.

When any of these acts are in all of your friends’ iPods one day, don’t pretend like I didn’t tell you so.
