We’ve been incredibly happy with the reception we’ve gotten from the true pioneers of the blogosphere. Scoble, Pirillo, Jarvis, Pulver–that’s the kind of company we like to keep. But this is special. Here’s what Dave Winer, the inventor of blogging had to say:
“Ustream is certainly the answer to how we’ll webcast my session at Mix 07 on April 30, and all future conferences. Check one off the to-do list.”We are truly standing on the shoulders of giants.
As the word of Ustream spreads across the Internet (thanks Scoble! Thanks Chris!), one of the coolest things to watch has been the creativity that Ustreamers have displayed in mashing in different services. From Skype and teleconferencing to streaming from within Second Life, Ustreamers are doing things we’d never tested or even thought about.
That’s the power of putting control in the hands of the user. The users are the stars…Ustream exists to help you shine.
Of course, not every aspect of being an open system is attractive. I’ve certainly seen a fair number of griefers in the various chat rooms. I have no idea what causes some people to take anything that people enjoy and try to destroy it. I believe that the good guys (our users) will win in the end, but any suggestions on how other media have handled these issues is welcome.
Thank you to everyone for all your support! These past few days Ustream.tv has received a ton of exposure. We are growing fast faster then we ever predict. We at Ustream.tv believe this is a testament to our technology and the live media space.  Although the journey has just started, we look forward to continuing to evolve and improve for you…
Check out a few of many articles below:
The launch of Ustream has exceeded all of our expectations in terms of traffic and usage. We figured that launching would get us a little bit of attention, and jump start the growth of the site.
Instead, the overwhelming response has been taxing our infrastructure and keeping us working around the clock to add more capacity. We certainly apologize for the growing pains. We thought we had enough capacity to handle any reasonable scenario. It just turns out that live video is unreasonably successful!
The late night heroics of the technical team should pay off today, as we triple our capacity. And that should hold us for, oh, I don’t know, another couple of days?
But in the grand scheme of things, being too popular is a little like being too rich–it’s what we like to call a high grade problem.
