Starting today, enterprises can now access hundreds of IBM and Business Partner services across their new IBM Cloud Marketplace. Ustream, the world’s most scalable and social live video platform, is the only video service in this exciting launch.
In the last 18 months, we’ve seen a significant rise in enterprise customers, as they’re implementing a variety of programs and using live video as another marketing channel. Fundamentally, we believe it’s the most engaging way that businesses can communicate externally and internally, and we expect continued live video adoption in the next three years. Since the start of the year, we’ve powered more than 5 million streams, and the numbers keep climbing.

On this week’s Tech Thursday blog, I will take you on a “behind the scenes” journey to show where the magic of Ustream happens. Ustream Hungary moved to an incredible, new office in the heart of Budapest and will now show it to the public for the first time.
Take a tour in Ustream’s New Hungarian office and see where we work hard, dream big, and make Ustream happen!
Ustream has five main offices around the globe
On February 21st, 2014 the Hungarian Ustream office hosted its first internal hackathon.
In the previous blog post (What the heck is Hackathon?) we talked about the premise and importance of this 24-hour coding contest, and how it brings people together to collaborate on a common project. All in the name of one mighty goal – to make the Ustream service better!
Not only the wide palette of ideas, but the team names themselves were injected with a healthy dose of creativity. We had Cougar Petting Trolls, A-Team, Geolition, The Fruit Loops, Screamo Mariachis, Call of Duty and Red Ducks, just to name a few.
But, lets take a look what they were working on through this hackathon recap. Here are the 11 project and ideas:
Did you know that Facebook’s Like button was conceived as part of a hackathon? Or that Twitter and GroupMe both originated in hackathons? Yes, many great companies and ideas have been born on through these special events, and I’m proud to introduce that Ustream hosting our first internal hackathon this week.
But what the heck is a hackathon exactly and why is it important for companies?
Well, it can take many forms, but in a nutshell,
2013 was a banner year for the Ustream live streaming platform — so much so, that it took us until the last day of January to finish tallying the 2013 live video statistics! Here’s a sneak peek, but check out the full look-back HERE (you wont’t be disappointed!).
- In 2013, we powered our 2 BILLIONTH hour, lifetime. That’s a ton of hours. (You may remember Brad’s post in October: We’re Two Billion Strong, Thanks to You!)
- We used 2.1 petabytes of storage to record streams in 2013… Click HERE to see what Wikipedia has to say about “Petabyte.” (I needed the refresher)
- The award for Most Broadcasts Per Capita went to… a twin-island nation between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Any guesses?
This week, we not only streamed the Streaming Media West Conference in Huntington Beach, Calif., but we also took home their Reader’s Choice Award for top Live Video Platform!
Thank you to everyone that voted! As I mentioned in a previous blog (We’re Two Billion Strong, Thanks to You!), we’ve come a long way over the years and we’re excited to continue growing together.
Six years ago, we started Ustream with the mission to bring live video broadcasting technology to the entire world. Today, we are the world’s most scalable and social platform for live video streaming, enabling millions of content creators to reach global audiences and share experiences in real-time. We were born in the tech capitol of the world — San Francisco — and in celebration of Innovation Month in our big city, we have some exciting news to share!
Thanks to all our Ustreamers across the globe, we’ve recently hit a company milestone: Our platform has powered more than two billion viewer-hours! Consider what two billion hours actually looks like…
This week, Inc. 500 announced its 2013 Inc. 5000 List of the “Fastest Growing Private Companies in America.” We are thrilled to announce that Ustream was ranked #343 overall!
Congratulations to all companies ranked; we are delighted to be in great company. As the Founder & CEO, I want to personally thank our dedicated Ustream employees and our loyal Ustream broadcasters!
We’re excited to announce that Ustream has just been named one of the 50 Most Engaged Workplaces in the United States! This award is especially important to us because it recognizes the fact that Ustream takes the time to engage and connect with its employees. We’re a passionate bunch, and we really appreciate being rewarded for our openness with our leaders and customers. So first and foremost, thanks to each and every one of YOU, our broadcasters, and viewers, for helping us create and build the live platform that gets us excited to come to work every day. We couldn’t do it without you.
