In little over two months, nearly 1,500 conservation-minded people from Edinburgh to Emerald (Australia) have donated close to $190,000 to save 107 acres of sensitive forest surrounding a small lake in the Highlands, near Victoria, BC, from commercial development. The response is heartening — but the Feb. 1 deadline for raising $1 million to secure financing that will allow the Mary Lake Conservancy to purchase the property for public parkland is only two weeks away. On Jan 27th we will be hosting a “Web-a-thon” ; a PBS-style fund drive – live on the web urging the public to donate and help us reach our Feb 01 goal. This modern event will draw an international audience in the thousands. The live Internet broadcast will be available on our site www.savemarylake.com and will be made available for supporters and news agencies to broadcast live directly from their own sites.
