KOCST born Courtney Charles Brown on January 18, 1977) is a West Coast rapper and record producer from INGLEWOOD, California. As a teen he took up numerous sports and excelled.He began selling homemade mixtapes in 1988) after he received a turntable for his 6th grade graduation and then began doing shows DJing around Southern California. Not only could he DJ,but he could rap and write his own songs, he could produce as well.As a producer, KOCST started behind the scenes by helping indee Artist craft their beats, however, it was not until later days KOCST himself produced and was credited for it. In 1995 KOCST RECEIVED A FULL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP FOR FOOTBALL TO SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY. Once in San Jose, Kocst became a dominate member of the rap group Da Committee Familino, retired from football and released a album titled CUT THROAT with a local Indee Label Black Tie Records.After the release of the album Kocst received another Full Football Scholarship to Sacramento State University.Once in Scramento Kocst got heavily involved with the independent music game and in 1998 started Hat Backwardz Entertainment LLC .Hat Backwardz Records (HBR) which was launched in 1998 as one of the premiere independent music labels in the world, and hope to eventually be the home of artists from virtually every musical genre. In 1998 Hat Backwardz Records entered into a non-exclusive agreement with the Orchard Distribution. The Label reached over 20,000 downloads and growing.HBR is the home of such current acts as Los & Kocst, Bop & Ragg, Kujo, Marc Hunter, 2 Bit,BRB and the Hat Backwardz Phenomenal. We also have catalog recordings of numerous volumes of the Hat Backwardz Compilation.In 2000, Hat Backwardz.com became the place where we showcase artists who reach well beyond the traditional repertoire.Check us out!
