Howard Eley was born in Detroit, Michigan two years before the US entered WWII, one of three siblings, to a coal-mining father and a mother with Bostonian breeding. “Happy,” as he came to be known, spent five years in the US Navy, after which he returned to Detroit. With few career opportunities available at that time, Happy turned to street hustling in the early 1960s, relocating to Los Angeles in 1963 where he continued the hustler lifestyle. After nearly two decades of pimping, dealing, and abusing alcohol and drugs, Happy eventually hit his bottom and on December 7, 1981, felt that he only had two options: ask God for help, or jump from a 6th story window. God answers prayer: Happy, now clean and sober for twenty-seven years, has worked and volunteered as a drug abuse counselor all over the Los Angeles county area. He created drug and alcohol abuse intervention and prevention programs for youth and adults for the United Way, California Job Corps, the California Youth Authority, and South Central Cocaine Anonymous, just to name a few. He has received numerous citations and certificates of appreciation for his diligent commitment to helping people live drug and alcohol abuse free. Happy became a licensed insurance agent in 2000 and later discovered the world of financial planning. With a real desire and passion to see people move from surviving to thriving, Happy’s professional expertise became one of educating the public on planning and preparing for their financial futures. He has found that many adults fail to plan properly and as a result, are insufficiently prepared for retirement or have no strategy for building wealth. It has become Happy’s new mission to bring key information and services to hard working individuals and families, unlocking the secrets of financial freedom that seem to allude many, and encourage people to embrace opportunities for financial abundance! Happy is the father of three daughters, a son who has passed, and a granddaughter, Mylan, who really is the apple of his eye.
