James Day is a contemporary sculptor, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer who primarily works with clay, wood, acrylics, and mixed media to create various forms of abstract, cubist and visionary realistic sculptures & paintings. Born in Kansas in 1970 to sculptor Cathie Ann Cordova, James was inspired by her to become a sculptor as well. Early on his work evolved from pottery and small figurative sculptures to sci-fi/3D character art & drawing, and later into what he likes to think of as visionary realism. It wasn't long before abstract and surrealism became his inspirations. Small marks in the clay and their relation to other marks seemed to play a larger and larger role in his work. Years later those concepts turned into the abstract/post cubism or what some think of as a Mayan style of carving. It's actually a language of relation expressed through lines, form, and movement.
