A graduate of Philadelphia¹s Academy of Vocal Arts, bass-baritone Keith
Miller joined the Metropolitan Opera in 2006. He made his debut on the Met
stage as the Bonze in Anthony Minghella¹s HD production of Madama Butterfly.
Since then, he has sung in over 165 performances for the company. These
include the Opening Night Galas of Madama Butterfly and Tosca, as well as HD performances of Tosca, Il Trittico, Eugene Onegin, Macbeth, Turandot,
Carmen, Armida, and Salome. In addition, he has performed as the King in
Aida, Monterone in Rigoletto, Jago in Ernani as well as various other roles
in War and Peace, Manon Lescaut, Faust, Andrea Chénier, Gianni Schicchi and Die Zauberflöte. He also performed with the Metropolitan Opera Summer
Recital Series and was featured on the company¹s Grammy-nominated recording of Madama Butterfly. For the 2010/11 season at the Met, Miller will take on the role of Ashby in La fanciulla del West with Deborah Voigt which will be broadcasted in HD.
Other opera engagements include playing Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Florida Grand Opera; Monterone in Rigoletto, the Bonze in Madama Butterfly,
and Ramfis in Aida at the Portland Opera; Leporello in Don Giovanni,
Monterone and Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Don Basilio in Il barbiere di
Siviglia with the Crested Butte Music Festival; Alidoro in La Cenerentola
with the Fargo-Moorhead Opera and Colline in La Bohème with the Poughkeepsie Opera company. In 2011, he will make his debut with the Washington National Opera in Madama Butterfly and with the Seattle Opera as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte.
Miller¹s concert appearances include the bass soloist in Rossini¹s Stabat
Mater and Handel¹s Messiah with the New Choral Society; Beethoven¹s Missa
Solemnis with the Bucks County Choral Society and the Fanshawe Chorus in
London, Ontario, CA; and Mozart¹s Vesperae de Dominica and Requiem with the Blackburn Chorus and Symphony in Ottawa, Ontario, CA. In 2009, he participated in a week-long residency with the Savannah Children¹s Choir that culminated in a recital and performance with the choir.
The singer also serves as the Crested Butte (Colorado) Music Festival¹s
Director for Opera and its Opera Young Artist Program. Additionally, he acts
as a mentor at ArtsLEAF, a mentoring network for the arts.
A native of Ovid, CO, Miller was a starting fullback at the University of
Colorado, playing in both the Fiesta and Cotton Bowls. In 1996, he carried
the Olympic torch for the Atlanta Games along a portion of the old Pony
Express trail in his home state. Miller played professional football for
five years with the European and Arena Football Leagues.
