Welcome to the Smith Mountain Lake State Park Osprey Camera. The Camera is located on Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia.

June 5th, 2015 Smith Mountain Lake State Park staff became aware that both Osprey chicks were not inside their nest. One chick appears to have been preyed upon during the night and was not recovered; however the second chick was recovered on the ground during the morning hours by park staff members. The chick was warmed and placed back in the nest and the staff was advised to wait one hour to see if the Osprey parents would return. The chick then appeared to be in some distress and the park staff made the call to have it removed to a wildlife rehabilitation center. Park staff recovered the chick from the nest to assess its health, but unfortunately the second chick passed away upon transport. If the park staff receives more information we will update the public.

This is the fourth year that we are streaming our osprey online. We hope you enjoy watching these wonderful birds.
