Each year more than 103,000 people die from infections they contracted during a hospital stay. Hospital Acquired Infections cost the health care system an estimated $30 billion per year.
Medical experts such as Dr. Betsy McCaughey indicate that 90% of all Hospital Acquired Infections are preventable through better hygiene practices. However, in 1970 the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and, the American Hospital Association made the decision that hospitals were no longer required to test surfaces for bacterial content.
