Puppies are loving their new food and are pretty good at NOT bathing in it!. Litterbox training continues with success. Charlene is now more than 25 ounces and is weighed once daily rather than the previous four times a day............11/23/09 Charlene is a fraction from 24 ounces. She has a ravenous appetite and is catching up with the bubbas! The boys have gone well over the two pound mark - I've had to switch to a bigger scale for them!.....NOTE: Equipment in the puppy area: grey disc is a balance disc designed to assist with development of coordination and motor function. We took three week old photos this afternoon - black puppies are tough to get a decent photo of! I'll have them processed and posted on the website in a couple of days - will send an announcement. Also, names have been finalized. While call names may change due to forever-home wishes, registered names will stay the same. We will announce the names tomorrow. This litter was a western theme and we chose names from four pages of collected possible names. Charlene was the only "surprise" name - not on the list ;-)..........................11/14/09 WEIGH-IN RESULTS! Black Boy #1 YELLOW COLLAR 34 oz, gain of 9 oz in 7 days; #2, Buff boy (Cass) 31.9 oz, gain of 8 oz; #3, Black boy, GREEN COLLAR, 28.1 oz, gain of 9 oz; #4, Charlene, 15.5 oz, gain of 5.5 oz (YAY!); Black boy #5, WHITE COLLAR, 31 oz, gain of 8 oz! Good job, guys!_______11/13/09 Happy Friday to All! There have been questions about Charlene, the little girl puppy. She does nurse but just isn't very good at it. I have been supplementing her with a rich goat milk based formula (See Leerburg) and she is gaining on the average of a half ounce per day. She receives 80 cc of formula, divided into four feedings per day, and she also drinks from a small bowl in the evenings, after I tube her. I began tubing her to preserve her energy but it is a efficient way to get the calories into her quickly. After her 6:30 feeding, she has a bowl to drink from and she is getting pretty good at it. More into her tummy and less on the body, floor, me, etc. I weigh her before and after every meal and am keeping a chart on her growth and food intake. I'm very pleased with her progress!-------------------------------------------
11/12/09 - About the video quality...I must have hit something when I adjusted the camera yesterday. Will try to fix that tonight. I fear the camera is going out. In other news, Charlene drank part of her dinner from a little bowl last night. She is a big girl - just lapped it right up! And then she fell on her face and rolled in it. Still a nice effort for a first time! Afterwards, she got her first bath. :-) The boys are doing well - they have become real DOGS in just a few days time!-------------------------------------------------------------
11/11/09 - First Haircuts last night!
Who could have believed so much hair could come from such tiny puppy heads? All five puppies were very good and didn't mind the clippers, although the little girl, Charlene, didn't care for the process and complained. The boys slept through it. Charlene weighed in at 13.25 oz this morning and spent some one on one time with Eve while the boys snuggled in a holding box outside the pen. The side rail on the pen has been raised since several escape attempts have been made by those big boys!
