At the invitation of Akol Kordit, Chairman of the SPLM Youth League, Randy Butler visited Sudan in October 2009. During visits to Khartoum and Juba, he met with leaders of four major political parties, heads of various Ministries and NGOs, and media representatives. Everyone he met stressed a urgent need for initiatives in conflict transformation before the upcoming elections and referendum. As a result of this trip, The Institute plans to conduct series of workshops in the first quarter of 2010 in Juba, Khartoum and El Fasher, Sudan. The Institute will also carry out two trainer of trainer workshops thereby enabling more workshops to be conducted in a short period of time with an aim of sowing the seeds of peaceful conflict resolution with the country decision and opinion makers in the lead up to elections in April 2010 and the expiration of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2011.
