    Dave Hickey is an internationally recognized critic of art and culture and recipient of the 2001 MacArthur "Genius Award." He has served as executive editor of Art in America and as contributing editor at The Village Voice. Hickey's essays have appeared in Rolling Stone, ARTnews, Harper's Magazine, and Vanity Fair. He is the author of The Invisible Dragon: Four Essays on Beauty (1993) and Air Guitar: Essays on Art and Democracy (1997), as well as a volume of short fiction. Hickey was formerly the owner and director of A Clean Well- Lighted Place gallery in Austin, Texas, and the director of the Reese Palley Gallery in New York City. He is professor of art theory and criticism at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
