November 11, 2011... (11-11-11) When we look outside after dark, we can hear our two favorite Barn Owls in the Eucalyptus trees nearby. They both fly overhead, happily 'chittering' to each other, and are no doubt checking out the newer location of their owl box overlooking the canyon, now about 10' closer to the big mulberry tree. The night before last, one was on top of our flagpole again, and another on top of the owl box. They are not far away, and still seem to like it close to home! I'm certain they also enjoy the 'very' special little gifts that our hero, the 'Rat Fairy' is leaving for them too!
The last of our '2011' 4 cute owlets fledged May 11, 2011.
NOW FLYING WILD, FREE & HAVING FUN at it!
ROCKET.....hatched 2:30am 2/19/11
JETT.....hatched 10:30pm 2/20/11
CHASE.....hatched 6:12pm 2/22/11
ZIPPY.....hatched 10:13am 2/27/11
(They hatch in 30-34 days every two or so days apart in the order they were laid.)

Remember the 'Safe Fledging' videos from our first time broadcasting
the little 'Punks' in '2010'? Check both out.
Fast forward to 35 minutes on...
Two of our owlets piled on top of each other and fell into the bushes way below, with full and live sound effects. They then crawled up the indoor/outdoor 20' carpeted ramp created specifically for this purpose,..and continued to try to fly (We wondered if it would even work. IT DID!)
ALSO documented again on May 31st 2010! Watch after 00:38:25... www.ustream.tv/recorded/7365100 for about 15 minutes or so and again in about an hour into the same video "RAMP ACTION"! They are all having fun together safely. That's a huge 20 foot climb from the bottom! Out of the canyon and out of harm's way in a matter of seconds.
Yippee Skippee that carpeted ramp really worked!

Barn Owls in an Owl Nesting Box in San Marcos, California. Introducing Owlivia and Owliver who raised and fledged 3 owlets named 'The Punks' last year, and Rocket, Jett, Chase and Zippy this year. Our bet is that Owliver is sitting in one of the two Eucalyptus trees you can see back there about 25' from their 'house. There are MORE than a few gigantic Palm Trees in the canyon below too! They are here. We see them fly overhead nightly.
