Goodbye Little Girl
It's true. Our "little" girl is going to her forever home on Thursday. Since she was born, this clever little one has really stood out. She's grown up into a wonderful, playful, smart puppy, full of personality. We are so excited for her to have a new family to love her and spoil her.
This will also be the end of the road for our ustream camera. Nikko will go back to getting the run of the house, so there's not really a good spot for the camera. Thank you to all who've watched, commented, and puppy-sat. You've made raising these adorable little babies even more memorable. Luckily there are other Shiba pups out there growing and needing your attention. We don't know if we will breed Nikko again. But if we do, you will be the first to know! Thanks again! xoxoxo

Someone asked for a page to see puppy pics. We started a blog when Nikko was pregnant, but found it easier to make updates on this ustream page. Have gone back to post pics. Check it out at www.nikkoshibainu.blogspot.com. Enjoy!

Bye Bye Baby Boy
Who could resist those long white socks? Our little boy has gone to his forever home and has a whole new family to love him. We are very happy and excited for him, but sad to see him go. We feel grateful to have raised him into a wonderful puppy for the last 9 weeks and will miss him dearly. Thanks to all who've watched him grow up.

Puppy Tornado
Someone called it right today. The puppy tornado definitely blew through Nikko-ville. Normally, Nikko's mom and dad work opposite shifts, so someone's at home. But today, Nikko's dad had jury duty and both were gone most of the day. I could barely stand watching the mayhem while at work, knowing I couldn't do anything about it. That's why we left Nikko in there to "supervise." Looks like she couldn't do much either. The pups tore up pee pads, pulled apart their entire bed area, and basically had a grand ol' time while we were gone. Fortunately, no one is worse for the wear. They turn 8 weeks old on Saturday. Hoping their ears go up soon!

First trip to the vet
Five weeks old today
Little boy weighs 3.3 lbs
"Little" girl weighs 3.6 lbs.
The vet was surprised how big they were, called them little German Shepherd puppies. Nikko got a couple vitamin shots and some higher calorie food. We were concerned that she was getting too thin. Vet says she's fine, just the pups taking a lot out of her. We're going to try harder to keep them apart and get them weaned off her soon. The pups were very popular with all at the office. And they behaved so well. Put them in a box, we were there for more than an hour, and neither made a mess. Once we got home, set them down, and they both went on the puppy pads!

Happy one month birthday!
Pups are getting so active. They run, hop and fight all over! Should hear them go at it. Baby growls get pretty loud. But they get tired so fast. Play play play, sleep. Eat, sleep. Play play play, sleep.

Puppies Win
They said they are ready for more space, so they got it. We opened the box, and let them into the dining room. Not to worry, they can't go too far, room is enclosed. Now, if only they'll learn what the puppy pads are for.

The Great Escape
If anyone has seen the video clips, you know the little girl has already tried to escape the box. So today, just to be safe, we took the ledge (rail) on the door side off, since she is trying to use it as a step. We thought that would do it. So imagine my surprise when I returned home tonight to find the little girl wandering around the dining room floor outside of the box. I don't know how she managed to get out or how long she was out, but some new preventive measures will have to be put in place to outsmart this clever little one.

Puppy Update
Babies are now 2 weeks old. The little girl opened her eyes today! They are both getting so big (fat) and strong. Both are able to sit up. The little girl is almost walking, a few wobbly steps at a time. She is very squirmy when you pick her up. Always wants to be moving around. The little boy is so mellow. Goes right to sleep in your arms. Their color is getting lighter. Can see the red hair on their heads, so they'll probably look like their momma, maybe darker. Nikko is shedding. Today, she got furminated and her nails clipped. She didn't like that, but she looks so pretty!

Testing out a new camera today. Hopefully it's better. Pups are one week old today!

For those who are wondering how to tell the pups apart. Obviously the little girl is very active. But you can also tell by their white markings. She has four short white socks. The boy has 2 long white socks on his front legs, and only a little bit of white on the back.
9/2/09 Update
We put up the door of the whelping box because the little girl likes to crawl out. Problem is, Nikko hates the door. Over the last day, we coaxed her in and out with food to show her it was easy to hop in and out. Then, we went out tonight for a couple hours, came back, and the door was shredded to pieces. You can check out the damage in our video clips. For now, Nikko wins. The door comes off.
9/1/09 Update
The little girl is very adventurous and strong. She likes to crawl all over, and even on top of mommy. Tonight, she finally crawled out of the whelping box, despite the towel "wall". I wanted to see what Nikko would do. Was wondering if she knew to pick her up by the scruff of the neck. Instead, she put her whole mouth around the puppy, and didn't pick her up, but just gradually dragged her back into the box. Puppy didn't make a peep. Brilliant.
Think we'll put the door on the box though, just to be safe.
For those who are wondering, Nikko is 2.5 years old. Born March 7, 2007. This is her first litter. Puppies' daddy is a black and tan Shiba owned by a relative of Nikko's breeder. Thanks to all who've watched and commented. Will do our best to keep it going.
