On Monday 4/2/2012, during the Federal raids against Richard Lee and Oaksterdam, a US Marshal struck Oakland-based livestreamer & independent journalist Bella Eiko during a crowd scuffle while the Feds were arresting someone. This is the US Marshal accused of striking Bella. He refused to offer a name or badge number. Pirate's battery cable was briefly hooked up on a Fedf's vest who was trying to close the door on a monkey.

Team OaktownLive consists of Pirate (in-field camera monkey) and Lexica (remotely-located Control and social stream mod). We've lived in Oakland for 15 years and 20 years (respectively) and love it with and despite its flaws.

Team OaktownLive aspires to being like Edison Carter and Theora, but our budget is closer to Reg and Dominique, while the quality of the stream sometimes drops down to Max Headroom level. We're also inspired and influenced by Spider Jerusalem and the Global Frequency.

A few general notes for folks participating in the social stream:

- Keep it civil. Disagreement is fine; personal attacks are not.

- No relaying information from police scanners. Under California Penal Code section 636.5 it is illegal to use or pass along information gained from a police scanner to "assist in the commission of a criminal offense or to avoid or escape arrest, trial, conviction, or punishment" and we don't want to run afoul of that.

- No doxing in the social stream. The information's available online and easily found, but this is not the place to relay it. Also, please no posting of phone numbers, even if publicly available, just to keep things clear.

Please note: the social stream is a benevolent dictatorship run primarily on the "living room model" (if you wouldn't say something face-to-face in my living room, don't say it in the stream). Conversation and discussion are warmly welcomed, but things like telling Pirate "talk less, this isn't your blog" or responding to a request not to relay scanner info by berating us for "not caring about police violence" will get your comment deleted; continuing in that vein will get you banned. If you think OaktownLive sucks, there are plenty of places you can share your opinion, but the OaktownLive social stream isn't one.
