Help us celebrate TAXI's 20th Birthday TODAY on TAXI TV! We'll be joined by a Music Supervisor who needs to remain nameless due to network constraints. None-the-less, he will be on board to answer your questions about placing your music in TV shows!
Questions I'll be asking:
What is the #1 one misconception you think many musicians have about placing their music in TV shows?
I know that most of the music you use is Instrumental. What length tracks do you prefer?
Do you prefer tracks with faded or buttoned endings, and why?
If you were a musician who wanted to be proactive and create your own library of tracks that have a high possibility of getting licensed, what genres would you focus on?
Give us an overview of how the process works: What is the sequence of events that determines what kind of music is needed for a show, and who makes the ultimate, final decisions?
Supervisors in general seemed to have raised their bar as far as the quality of virtual instrument sounds they expect to hear. Why is sample quality so important when much of the music on TV is mixed fairly low, the speakers most people listen on are pretty low end, and the average viewer probably can't hear the difference?
Do you have any general advice for composers as to how complicated or not their arrangements should be, and why? Can ultra simple arrangements - let's say a tuba and an accordion - get used, or do supervisors need more sophisticated arrangements?
We'll also be taking questions from our viewers today, so don't miss this episode!
Remember, we will be celebrating TAXI's 20th Birthday on today's show. You might want to have a shot glass ready to go!
