      MarkOConnell: Since you need compromised tread to get over the air bags why not have droppable treading for situations like this? Use the first layer of the treads to get over the air bags and then drop them to create a better traction escape footing when needed. Design them so they lock together to make a firm surface as the rover wheels move.
