How to Stream your Computer Screen/How to Screen Capture

How do you take what is on your computer screen and stream it and how to only stream portions of your computer screen.

[To do this you will need to either get the program CamTwist (Mac) or WebCamMax (PC). CamTwist is free, but WebCamMax is not.]

    • After downloading and installing CamTwist, open up CamTwist before opening up your Ustream broadcaster. Note: You may have to restart your computer after the initial installation.
    • In CamTwist, Step 1, select "Desktop?" from the Video Sources menu.
    • To do Full Screen, leave the "Full Screen" box checked. To do just part of your screen click "Select Capture Area" and then adjust the capture area and click "Done".
    • Open up your Ustream broadcaster and start broadcasting. Make sure CamTwist is selected in the Video Sources drop down menu.

Note:To preview what the video will look like in CamTwist, click on "Preview" in CamTwist.

How to Capture Video that is Playing on Your Television

In order to do this, you must own some sort of video capture device along the lines of ADSTech Pyro A/V Link.

    • Plug in the device and install the drivers and software for it.
    • Turn on your video source (TV, DVD Player, VCR).
    • Open up your UStream broadcaster and select the video source from the Video Sources drop down menu.

Note: This technique may or may not capture the audio as well. You may want to connect your laptop/computer to the video source?s audio output via an eighth inch to eighth inch jack.

How to Stream Prerecorded Videos (YouTube, Google Video)

There are multiple ways to do this. To "directly" play a video you must use CamTwist and have the video file saved onto your computer. YouTube does not allow you to save a video to your computer, however, Google Video does let you.

    "Direct" Way

    • Once you have a video saved on your computer, open up CamTwist and select Movies from the (Step 1) Video Sources menu.
    • Drag and drop your video into the Playlist.
    • Click Play.

    "Indirect" Way

[This way utilizes the screen capture feature of CamTwist]

    • Open up the YouTube video in a webpage.
    • Select "Desktop" from the Video Source menu then choose the "Select Capture Area" function.
    • Adjust the capture area so that it only captures the YouTube video screen.
    • Click done.

Note: this will NOT pick up the audio as well. In order to get the audio for the video you have to use either Sound Flower to internally route the audio. Or you can get an 1/8" jack to 1/8" jack and insert it into your Built-In Output and Built-In Input and select "Built-in Input" from the Audio Sources drop down menu.

    How to Stream Mobile

Currently we recommend using either Sprint's or Verizon's EVDO Revision A cards. These are high speed cellular cards that work with Mac and PCs. Not all cards work with every computer, so please contact a Sprint or Verizon store near you. To find out if EVDO Revision A is available in your area, we recommend visiting www.evdomaps.com. A 3 watt cellular repeater will also help blast your cellular signal to the nearest tower and give a clearer signal with less packet loss.
