Meet Midori, new mom and ECAD breeding dog. Her parents are Lu-Lu, an ECAD breeder, and Elton, a Guide Dog Foundation stud dog. Midori was born on June 8, 2014 to a litter of eight. Five of her brothers and sisters became service dogs, and two others were released to wonderful families. ECAD keeps the best of the best for their breeding program, and the others have various options: become a Service Dog, a Facility Dog, a dog for children with Autism, or an assistant to a veteran who needs to adjust back to civilian life. If none of those careers are suitable, then the dog is released to live their life as a pet. Lots of steps are required for a dog to successfully become a Service Dog, and ECAD's standards are very strict.
This is Midori's first litter and she is a little nervous because she doesn't know what to expect, but ECAD founders Dale and Lu will be right there to help if she needs it. All ECAD breeders whelp their litters with Dale and Lu.
Founded in 1995 by Lu and Dale Picard, ECAD has successfully paired over 225 human-canine teams nationwide. ECAD's mission is to enable people with disabilities to gain independence and mobility through the use of specially educated dogs. ECAD's impact directly benefits three lives: their clients, the at-risk youth who assist in training the dogs, and the dogs themselves.
