ToshaMakia is one of the hardest working women in show business. She is known as the "sexiest Puerto-Rican Mami on hip-hop radio." ToshaMakia is an emerging pop music superstar, model, outspoken on-air radio personality and a strong member of the community. Some people might say she is one of the hardest working women in showbiz. She is known for her warm personality, beautiful face and positive attitude.
With the voice of an angel that is powerfully seductive and silky smooth ToshaMakia has been singing for as long as she can remember. She says "Ever since I was small my Mom had an amazing collection of music I would sing along to everything. I loved singing from pop, country, rock-I enjoyed singing all different styles." Music was also her salvation. "Whenever there was something going on music always fixed it."
Her career in the music industry started when she launched her debut single in the Connecticut area, an infectious single "Be Yourself." From that important stepping stone ToshaMakia's single was skyrocketing up the charts and she was gaining more notoriety, when life stepped in the way. She has also performing and touring with some of the biggest names in the business, Angie Martinez (from New York City's #1 radio station, HOT 97), Ashanti, Busta Rhymes, Ciara, Diddy, Lil Kim, LL Cool J, Nas and Trick Daddy just too name a few. She has also performed on some of the hottest television shows on air, BET's 106 and Park, The Carson Daly Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the WB Morning Show.
But while that time may have seemed like some of the best moments in her life what was actually going on was a completely different story. ToshaMakia was actually in an abusive relationship where she was getting physically, mentally and emotionally ripped apart. Although it's hard for her to discuss she wants to do as much as she can so that no other women become victims. While she was dealing with a tumultuous home life she was putting up a brave front. She explains how that eventually took it's toll on her spirit. "Before when I was singing I couldn't enjoy it. I was like a walking zombie. It got to the point where I was just performing to get out of the house. I couldn't enjoy it or be prepared for what was supposed to come next."
At the same time that her single was hitting she became a part of the WZMX Hot 93.7 radio team, hand chosen by Victor Starr in Hartford, CT. She soon caught the attention of the Source magazine appearing in the Dime Piece section in her own photo shoot. She was also chosen as One of the 50 Sexiest Singles in New York City appearing in the Tempo section of the New York Post. ToshaMakia's rising star soon transported her to a larger market and she received a call from the city of brotherly love and she was invited to become an on-air talent at Philadelphia's popular urban station,100.3 The Beat.
During that time ToshaMakia found the strength to publicly come out on the air and let everyone know what she was going through. She also found the strength to get out of that relationship and once she had her life back, a higher power put her back on the path to her true destiny. "God will always put you back where you're supposed to be. The one time I tried to walk away (from singing) it kept coming back even harder."
One evening when she was having dinner at a friend's house, her friend's husband was working with 2 producers and some emerging artist and he discovered ToshaMakia was a singer. They brought her into the studio and as soon as she got back behead the mic, the magic happened. In one take she nailed her first song and that became the start of a beautiful relationship. Working with her manager Torrance Flowers and also with the Ron Easley of J Management on the production side, ToshaMakia is ushering in her unique brand of pop tinged dance music flavored strongly with R&B.
