Oxfam America and the World Bank Institute host a discussion on the growing demand from civil society activists, parliamentarians, investors and others to see the terms of petroleum agreements between governments and international oil companies as they can have profound financial, social, environmental and human rights implications. For decades, petroleum agreements between governments and international oil companies have been treated as highly confidential. Panelists discuss increasing momentum for transparency of these lucrative deals, highlighting several countries now publishing these agreements as a matter of law or practice. They look at the release of petroleum agreements in Ghana, how civil society groups are using this new information and what kinds of technical support outside groups can provide to help analyze and monitor these agreements.
