The Japan Foundation co-organizes an international conference “Potential of New Global Network” in cooperation with Asahi Art Festival (AAF) Executive Committee.
AAF is a nation wide network of arts projects whose initiatives are taken by local citizens, to cultivate and rejuvenate community’s future by connecting art and society across Japan. To celebrate its 10-year anniversary, AAF organizes the AAF Global Network Project by inviting creative leaders from seven Asian countries, to hold study tour to build a network with Tohoku-based arts projects. On August 21, the Japan Foundation will co-organize an international conference in Tokyo held on the last day of the study tour in cooperation with AAF.

What did young Asian cultural leaders witness in Tohoku region where people started to take a step forward calmly yet firmly? At the conference, they will report what they have seen and a dialogue with arts practitioners in Tohoku, to share the story with people around the world through Ustream. After the report, 3 agendas will be discussed with participants of the conference: “Creative Self-governed Society”, “Role of Art Center” and “Value of International Network”. Through the conference, the Japan Foundation and AAF aim to provide a global vision to build a creative and sustainable society.
