Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is a graduate school of public administration, international affairs, and the social sciences, offering professional degrees for leaders and practitioners in the public sector alongside scholarly degrees in such disciplines as economics, political science, geography, anthropology, sociology, and history. It serves, also, as the curricular headquarters for Syracuse undergrads in the social sciences. The commingling of these programs — unique in American higher education — creates a strong multidisciplinary ethos, nurturing citizenship studies and much of the research conducted in ten topic-driven institutes. This flouting of departmental boundaries creates a balanced respect for theory, policy, practice, and the important ways they interconnect.
