About Sanjana Mahesh:
Dance has been an integral part of Sanjana’s life ever since she started learning this beautiful art form at the tender age of five. She was introduced to Bharatha Natyam by her first Guru Mrs. Akila Iyer, who has played a major role in helping her develop a deep understanding and love for dance. Sanjana has a great love and respect for her first teacher for nurturing her talent, for her guidance and unequivocal support.
In 2009, Sanjana was presented with a unique opportunity to train under the tutelage of the renowned Bharatanatyam artist, Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy. Sanjana was truly blessed to be accepted by this amazing, talented artist and wonderful teacher who took her under her wings and started her official training in 2011 in preparation for her debut performance. Dr. Vasundhara or Amma, as she is fondly addressed by all her students, has been nurturing Sanjana not only as a dancer but also has shaped her to become a self confident, responsible and conscientious individual by nurturing her mind, body and soul with her creative spirit.
In addition to classical Indian dance, Sanjana is also interested in Indian folk dance, Bollywood, and contemporary western dance. She has a great love for the Theater and her experience with theater includes productions of Annie (Molly), Mid Summer Night’s Dream (Helena), Oldham County Arts Center Production of Aladdin (Narrator), and Sacred Heart School for the Arts Sound of Music (Leisl). Sanjana participates in her school’s ACapella, Choir, and Musical Theater Seminar programs.
Sanjana is a high achieving Honor Roll Student and was recently awarded the 110% Award at her Honors day ceremony and made the Principal’s List. She qualified in the District and Regional High School Governors Cup Academic competitions and for State Governors Cup in Arts and Humanities. Sanjana volunteers at the Louisville Downs Syndrome Society and works with children and adults with DS.
Sanjana has also been attending the Hindu School of Kentucky (HSKY) for the past 12 years, which has greatly helped her keep in touch with the spiritual aspect of her life and significance of her religion, traditions and culture.
Sanjana would like to thank her teachers, mentors, friends and family for their constant support and encouragement throughout her years.
