Hatching Mallard Ducklings In Incubator. The hatching day should be around May 4th thru the 6th. Stay tuned to watch the little guy break out of the egg shell.
It has been one week since incubation started and we candled the eggs to see how they are developing. By candling we took a flashlight and held the egg up to the light so we could see inside of it. We had 8 eggs and only four of them developed properly. The eggs that didn't develop were numbers 1, 5, 6 and 8. We added 4 more eggs also. Hopefully they will take. We will find out next week! The first week of development you will see veins which look like a spider web. The little duckling has a heartbeat and you can see them moving. The eggs that didn't develop just had a clear yolk and need to be taken out so they wouldn't contaminate the other eggs. Stay tuned for next weeks candling!! The second week candling looked good. All the ducklings are progressing at the right stage of time. The four little eggs will hatch two week later which will be May 18th thru the 20th. I heard the first pep today. This means they are close to hatching day. I will not rotate the eggs no more because you can disturb the position in which they need to be set in the egg. The hatching process can take a while, so be tuned in on these last few days to experience a birthday.
