1/26/09: I saw Bella (previously Belle) today! She is so cute and doing well. Her human daddy brought her to our hospital today so her human mommy could share her as part of pet therapy for the patients in the inpatient rehab facility. I'm sure everyone who sees her will feel better :) I do!
1/20/09 UPDATE: Of course, we miss the babies - in case you wondered :) Bentley & Belle are doing awesome in their new homes! I talked to Belle's mommy yesterday at work and she loves to snuggle with her daddy by crawling on his neck. She also loves her new big sister, Babe, a red short hair doxie. I talked with Bentley's family tonight and he is also doing awesome with his new family. His new daddy has slept in the same room with him a couple nights to help him adjust. Their small children can hardly believe they got to "keep him and take him home." I hope they will have pages on dailydoxie soon.
1/16/09 :( Bentley left this evening; he is going to spend the night with his daddy "Moosie" and then will be going home with his new family tomorrow. The corner of the dining room seems very empty and quiet. Maggie is doing well - she does seem to look for the puppies every now and then. But, Maggie and Gracie are having some extreme playtime together. They seem to be enjoying having their human parents back all to themselves. And, Gracie is doing well tonight after her spaying surgery yesterday. Wow is it going to be quiet in this house tonight.
1/15/09 Bentley and Belle went to visit the vet today and of course, he thought they were both adorable. Auntie Gracie also went today and got spayed. Bentley weighed 3 lb 6.5 oz and Belle weighed 3 lb 3.5 oz.
Belle went home with her new mommy this evening. They were so excited to get her! Her new mommy is going to let me know tomorrow how the first night goes - I'm sure she will be a whiney hiney which is to be expected. She is so adorable though! We will miss her around here.
1/11/09 I can't believe that Belle and Bentley will be going to their new homes soon. As I'm sure you've noticed we often have them out of the pen. They have adventured outside and they have had extensive playtime in the living room floor with Maggie and Gracie. Maggie is back to sleeping with us so the puppies are spending their nights together - with some whining but exactly what is expected during the weaning process. They only nurse now if Maggie happens to allow it or they catch her during playtime. Maggie, as any puppy mother does at this point, snips at them to tell them "no" when they attempt to nurse during playtime.
Belle loves Gracie and tackles her when they are playing. They make me laugh! It's exciting to know that Belle is going to have a big sister at her new house, a short-haired red dachshund. Maybe she will think she took Gracie with her :) Her family has promised to bring her this summer to the Weiner Dog Races for a reunion. Of course, I will get to hear about her and see pictures at work. I'm sure I will see her human mommy several times each week during lunch. She is going to an awesome home!
Bentley will be going to a home with small children and his family has been watching him on this puppycam and can't wait to get him. He will be staying in the "Moosie" family. Moose's dad promises that I will see Bentley at the Weiner Dog races too. It will be a family picture moment - Moose, Maggie, and the babies! Of course, Auntie Gracie will be in the picture :)
The puppies will go get their shots on Thursday, January 15. The new owners are planning to get the babies next weekend. I plan to introduce them to dailydoxie.com and show them how to make a profile for the babies. I want us all to be able to watch them grow!
1/7/09 Wow are they growing! Bentley weighs 3 lbs. 1 oz and Belle weighs 2 lb. 14 oz.
1/4/09 These are the smartest babies! As always, I shut Maggie in with the babies for the night. At 3:00 AM, I heard whining so got up to check on them. Amazingly, the babies wanted out of the crate to potty. So that they did and then went back in the crate and went to sleep. Maggie of course headed to bed with me, crawled under the covers with Gracie and was VERY happy!
1/3/09 11:00 am - It's over 60 degrees today so Bentley & Belle got to go outside again and play in the yard with Maggie and Gracie. Had a great time!
1/2/09 Bentley and Belle got to play outside in the yard this afternoon. Daddy took them out since it was a 50 degree day :)
1/2/09 Bentley and Belle are true "hefties" they now weigh the same at 2 lbs. 11 oz.
1/2/09 It's 4:23 a.m. and I wanted to let everyone know that Lily Rose went to her "Forever Heavenly Home" a couple of hours ago. My heart is breaking :(:(:( I can't even believe how attached I became to that little angel face in one month. I appreciate all of the support for Lily Rose. As I sit here crying, I can say that I'm thankful. I will always remember Lily Rose. As I now truly begin 2009, I am going to focus my energy on Bentley and Belle because they too have stolen my heart and I'm thankful for their wagging tails :) All I can say to all you Lily Rose fans is "I'm sorry for your loss." And, I mean it! But rest assured, she is no longer crying and struggling to breathe but chasing her brother who beat her to "puppy heaven." God Bless you all!
12/28/08 The puppies are 4 weeks old today and Lily Rose finally hit the 1 pound mark! Yeah!
12/27/08 Lily Rose is up to 15.5 oz.

12/22/08 LILY UPDATE: OMG she weighs 13.5 ounces tonight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12/21 WOW! Those supplements are working... Lily Rose weighs 12.6 oz. tonight :):) Of course, the other two just keep gaining: Bentley weighs 1 lb. 15 oz.
Belle weighs 1 lb. 14 oz.
12/20 LILY ROSE UPDATE We weighed the puppies again: Bentley & Belle - still weighing the same at 1 lb. 13 oz. Lily Rose - 11.4 oz. (lost a bit)
I called the vet this afternoon about Lily's weight loss and not eating well. He told us to feed her supplement every hour and to give her Pedialyte for hydration. We also picked up an amoxil prescription just in case she has diarrhea (we don't know since Maggie cleans up after her). So we are taking her with us tonight to a family Christmas party tonight so we can tend to her every hour. Don't be alarmed she will be back home later.

12/18/08 - LILY ROSE UPDATE Lily went to her vet appointment this afternoon and we heard mostly good news! The vet did an assessment and Lily does have a positive paw reflex, meaning that when you bend her paws backward she bends them back forward. Our vet said her lungs sounded good but that she is working a little harder to breathe simply because her lungs are a little displaced due to her chest being flattened. He said we should know between weeks 4 and 5 how she is going to do. The good news? 80-90 percent of puppies will grow out of this on their own. So I guess we will wait and see!!! Also, we asked him about the liver shunting since she is so much smaller than the other puppies and he wasn't concerned about that at this point because her birth weight was quite a bit smaller than Bentley and Belle. She has also been steadily gaining weight. Basically all we can do now is keep making sure she gets plenty to eat and continues to gain weight! Keep praying for little Lily!
12/18/08 Lily Rose has an appointment with the vet at 3:00 pm today so will be gone for a little while. I am home sick today but my daughter (the registered nurse) will be taking her. I will let you know what we find out later today.
12/18/08 Daddy was home for lunch and did a weigh-in: Bentley & Belle are both 1 lb. 10.7 oz. Lily Rose is 11.8 oz.
11/107/08 Lily Rose UPDATE: I called the vet and we had a long conversation about Lily today. He feels she does have swimming puppy syndrome and says that in past with most people they have euthanized the puppy. But, I told him I am not a breeder and am already so attached to her. I am not willing to give up on her! So, I am doing what I can to try to reform her chest. We have a self-sticking athletic wrap around her with a newborn sock cut out to put over it. I was afraid Maggie might tear off the wrap or it would come off without the sock over it. Don't worry if you see her on her side and frustrated. It is a good thing for her to be on her side even if she gets mad. We will be watching her carefully and hopefully when it's time to really "get her legs up under her" and walk, she will! Keep cheering for Lily Rose!!

12/6/08 The babies now weigh: Bentley weighs 11.5 ounces Belle weighs 11.7 ounces Lily Rose weighs 7.8 ounces
12/4/08 The babies have been named and weighed again: Bentley (the brown boy) weighs 9.4 ounces Belle (the silver girl) weighs 9.5 ounces Lily Rose(the black girl) weighs 6.5 ounces-Her middle name is after her #1 Fan (miamipuppyluv)
12/2/08 The babies are 24 hours old and we just weighed them: Brown boy - 7 ounces Silver girl - 6.5 ounces Black girl - 4.5 ounces
Puppy #4, the little c-section boy, didn't make it:( This is Maggie's first and will be her last litter - she is now spayed. I am thankful Maggie and the other three are doing great!
12/1/08 Puppies are being born now! Puppy #1 was a black piebald girl; Puppy #2 was a red piebald boy; puppy #3 was another girl; Puppy #4 had to be born by c-section and he is not doing well - we are keeping him warm and trying to stimulate him but it isn't going well.
11/30/08 We will have the puppycam on as often as we can now. Maggie began the "nesting" process about 6:00 p.m. tonight and has been in and out of the kennel a few times. We are thinking she might have those puppies tonight!
11/27/08 We will be sharing videos of Maggies FIRST pregnancy. Today is Thanksgiving and she is due any day!! Maggie is a long-haired black and tan piebald dachshund. The puppies daddy, Moose, is a short-haired red piebald. Maggie has a 4-month old baby sister, Gracie, a long-haired red dachshund. The vet thinks Maggie will have 5 puppies so we will see! The puppies will be raised in our house. If you can't tell, we are dachshund lovers!
I just weighed Maggie - WOW! Her pre-pregnancy weight was about 8.5 pounds and she now weighs 12.5 pounds. Of course, she did get a few bites of turkey today:)
