One-Night Only Performances: A Tribute To Guglielmo Achille Cavellini (1914 - 1990) on Sunday, 8 September 2013, 5 - 7pm
Guglielmo Achille Cavellini (1914 to 1990) was famous for Autostoricizzazione (self-historicization), a term he coined in 1970 for making his life into an art object via a series of ironic self-promotional strategies that included performances of historical importance. As part of Autostoricizzazione, Cavellini used black felt tip pens to write hyperbolic human thoughts and challenging texts on walls, canvas, objects, clothes and live nude models.
On Cavellini is a performance paying homage to Cavellini the Artist by Carlo Ferraris. An interactive presentation that involves audience participation, the point of focus for this work relates to Cavellini himself, his eccentricities and sense of humor.
Interior Shampoo is a performance inspired by Cavellini’s Autostoricizzazione by Steven Rose, Joanna Seitz and Kristof Wickman. For this performance, Kristof and RoseNSeitz will set into motion a virtual Rube Goldberg machine with the purpose of creating a beautiful pastoral still life. Performance components include: airbrush artist, dancers, fog, snow machine, ladder, photo back drop, lights, faux fur, wiggle board, fruits, lipstick, a lock of Cavellini's hair, and pour-on latex rubber.
These performances are a prelude to the gallery’s solo exhibition of Cavellini’s works Guglielmo Achille Cavellini (1914 - 1990) opening on Wednesday, 18 September, 6 - 8pm.
