We are devastated by the suffering of our Haitian neighbors. The images we have witnessed open our hearts up to their utter sorrow. These mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles, children, people, human beings ... are our responsibility just as we are responsible for those in our own families and communities. Standing by is not an option at this moment in time and action is the only course.
Join us on Sunday, January 17 at Churchill Grounds Jazz Club, 660 Peachtree Street at 7:30 PM for Love : Haiti - A Night of Music to Support the Humanitarian Effort in Haiti. Featured artists include Joi, Mausiki Scales and Common Ground Collective, Chanda McKnight, Russell Gunn, Big Rube, Avery Sunshine, Ken Ford, Luis Carreras, Vinx, DJ Vando and others. Hosted by Leatrice Ellzy, Jodine Dorce and Keith A. Brown.
The recommended donation is $25. The minimum donation is $15 and will be collected at the door. Proceeds will be given to UNICEF, a reputable 501(c) 3 organization who has been operating in Haiti since 1949. They have a team on the ground who was able to provide services to children in the early hours of this disaster.
If you are unable to come to Churchill Grounds we encourage you to log on to http://www.ustream.tv/channel/love-haiti where we will be streaming live and taking donations online.
Love : Haiti is a project of the National Black Arts Festival. Special thanks to Churchill Grounds Jazz Club for opening their doors, the artists/poets/DJ's for saying YES! and Red Creative for providing the imaging.
