Helmuth Projects is pleased to present “Stricken”, a real-time endurance installation by San Diego artist Jenna Morrow. "Stricken" will be 24 hours of continuous knitting.
Morrow practices the German/Continental style of knitting and will be working from a large ball composed of fifty skeins of white yarn.
"My goal with the 24-hour knit is to reduce control over the body and the process to such a degree that the results are autonomous from my intentions."
It's an absurd attempt at a simple task and we are curious to see what happens when mind, finger and yarn are pushed to the breaking point. The performance will begin promptly on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 6am and The Scarf will be considered complete Sunday Oct. 2 at 6am.
Ms. Morrow will only stop working for minimal restroom breaks. Basic sustenance (and moral support) will be provided by friends of the artist as assisted by the staff at Helmuth. There will be a live web-cam feed of the event, but local fans of craft, conceptual art and impossible tasks are encouraged to join us as at the gallery for the real thing.
