he Independence Institute will host a panel discussion and luncheon on the issue of 'Network Neutrality' on Wednesday, May 26th at the Pinnacle Club in Denver. The event will be available for viewing on USTREAM. Speakers include Commissioners Robert McDowell and Meredith Atwell Baker from the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) and Chairman of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission Ron Binz. Panelists include economist Coleman Bazelon of the Brattle Group; Steve Davis, Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs for QWEST, and John Ryan, Senior Vice President and Assistant Chief Legal Officer for Level 3 Communications.
The net neutrality debate took on new life earlier this month when the Federal Communications Commission Chairman proposed regulating broadband under old rules established for traditional telephone networks. This after a federal appeals court rejected the FCC's recent attempts to enforce network neutrality rules.
The event consists of remarks by the FCC Commissioners and a panel discussion from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM, followed by lunch with a keynote address by Chairman Binz.
