Q: What's the difference between SS and SS w/ Save and Quit?
A: Basically identical runs, but S&Q cuts out 3 minutes of random overworld stuff. No big deal, but don't assume a S&Q run is better just because it has a lower time. Add 3 minutes to it to compare to a SS run that doesn't use savewarps.
Q: How are your runs timed?
A: Start of character control to end of character control (SDA timing). In other words, timing starts when Link lands after jumping out of bed and ends at the transition to the Triforce room. For SRL and Nico timing, add ~27 seconds.
Q: What do you play on?
A: As of this writing (October 2011) I'll be using Snes9x 1.51 for any "serious" attempt stuff. It's a bit more accurate to console than 1.43 is. Runs are all realtime, as I'm practicing for console, so no, these aren't tool-assisted. Audity and I have made some "theory TASes" to see what time a "perfect" console run may get, and they're somewhere around 1:21 Any% and 1:38 100%. As those TASes use literally perfect inputs and luck though, I wouldn't expect a human run to ever come within 2 minutes of them.
Q: Why the Japanese version of ALttP?
A: Text is about a minute faster, plus there are a few fun glitches like hammerdashing/superspeed/block erasing in 1.0 that save a negligible amount of seconds (but look amusing). Japanese 1.0 Any% is about 70 seconds faster and 100% is about 90 seconds faster.
Q: What are OoB tricks?
A: Going out of bounds in ways the developers didn't intend, such as DMD (Death Mountain Descent) or either of the Turtle Rock skips (the ridiculously easy top skip or the harder skip to get into the bottom cave). Why don't I use them? I dunno, no one else does and I don't personally find it enjoyable to completely skip bosses (Lanmolas and Moldorm) or dungeons (Agahnim's Tower, half of Turtle Rock).
Q: How long have you been playing ALttP?
A: Since January 2010, with obviously hundreds and hundreds of hours into practicing and studying the game (along with, most notably, Audity's help (LTTP4HTTP on YouTube)).
Q: Planning on doing SDA runs?
A: Yeah, Any% and 100% for ALttP of course (probably in 2012 when I feel like going for an asinine time), though I need to learn to play on something other than keyboard. Getting the 1.0 cart will be easy, but people don't seem to realize going for something ridiculous like 1:24 SS will take several months, not a matter of just having the equipment and playing for a few weeks or whatever.
