2013: 6/28FYI - Chanel was taken to the Wild Life Preserve in Calabasas on Friday by my daughters but Chanel was sent home because the preserve said that she was fine and just needed 2 more days. A fake nest was made for Chanel as suggested by the preserve and Tink came to feed and care for her. My youngest daughter spent hours several times on Friday and Saturday in rescuing Chanel from fleding too early and watched and took care of her for days in giving her baby powder baths until she finally fledged and now she and Coco are with Tink. NOW, here's the sad part: I received a phone call at work (which I have never given away - however did this person get it?) and this person informed me that I have been reported to the federal authorities is regards to these birds. I do appreciate that Tink's friends are very concerned about her and her babies well being - but really, is this the appreciation that we get for sharing the life of these birds?
We gave them daily baby powder baths to relieve them of mites and at times morning and night. There were times when we had to do it every hour and this went on for several days. Chanel was attacked by another juvenile hummer that made her fall from her branch perch, my daughter rescued her; Chanel fell into bushes for fledging early, my daughter spent at least 2 hours looking for her and had to clean her up and Chanel did this several times; my daughter spent Friday and Saturday taking care of her - how many 16 year olds would spend their summer weekends doing that for a bird?
I love the interaction and the friendship I've developed with streaming Tink. But I don't appreciate the YELLING, the threats and basically the mean treatment we've been getting from some viewers. And now I have been reported to the federal authorities so I can be arrested for taking care of these birds - should I just have left them alone in their mites and not touch them; should Chanel been left alone in the bushes and let her suffocate in spider web; should Chanel been left on the ground when she was attacked by another hummer? It seems that we're damned if we do, and we're damned if we don't? Swell. 06/27 Chanel fledged before 6AM- mod ohtlee noticed the empty nest. Tink was around guarding the nest but Chanel was gone. 06/23 Coco fledged between 5-6pm will be editing a 3 hr recording. 06/13 Coco and Chanel had a baby powder bath to get rid of pesky mites. Kudos and many thanks to our mod ohtlee and hummer rehab specialist Monique for giving us tips on how to help our little babies. They are feeling much better now, most likely another bath tomorrow.

2013: Tink our front porch hummingbird is back for 2013. Started her nest 05/08/2013 branch Y end of Camelia bush and it's going to be very exciting. Huge lag between live and Ustream.
WARNING: Don’t be alarmed if some human intervention happens to the babies. Please understand that the nest is in a camelia bush next to the walkway to our front door, so if the babies are startled and caused them to fledge before they are ready, we will be careful and put them back in their nest. Unfortunately, the same thing happened the last time and people panicked. Tink must trust us enough because this is her 4th nest. We promise we will walk by silently and gently and we appreciate your love for these birds. Thank you for visiting.
Got Hummers? Happy Wife, Happy Life. When she has a hummer to watch, life is good. 05/28 3:28 & 5:07PM Bert & Ernie hatched.
