The live webcam has been retired..... please enjoy the videos. And thanks to all of you for making Hummette's site educational and fun!

This was a live webcam at our home in Sunnyvale, California (45 miles south of San Francisco in Silicon Valley). "Hummette" is an Anna's hummingbird that laid two eggs under our backyard patio cover on January 21, 2009. They hatched on February 5. The young birds ("H2" and "H3") stayed in the nest 23 days and fledged on February 28. Still photos showing the nest, two baby birds at various ages and webcam are on our website at www.koskiphoto.com/hummette.

The starred archived videos on this page are our favorites. On the starred video "Babies Leave Nest", you can see the take-off from the nest at 1 minute, 14 seconds, right around noon, Pacific Time. Our friend Peter had taken a few photos and was about to clean off the nearby spider web when the birds flew off to the left. On previous days, they just froze when anyone was near. This time they were strong and ready to fledge.

Again, we'd like to thank Peter ("Mr. Hands") and Jane for their help and all of Hummette's fans for your encouragement and appreciation of this webcam. We've been long-time animal lovers but now feel a special affection for Hummette and her babies. And here's a special thanks to Linda's brother Ted for introducing us to Ustream and for his 24/7 tech support.

    Thank you!
