A sound-changing artist and an impervious celebrity, Yung Piff began his career as a preteen delivering smooth R&B — but through years of maturation and reinventing the mixtape game, he developed into a versatile rapper with a massive body of work, one so inventive and cunning that it makes his famous claim of being the “Prince of New England” worth considering. Born Michael Dejion Wilder and raised in the infamous Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, he was a straight-A student but never felt his true intelligence was expressed through any kind of report card. He found music was the best way to express himself, and after taking the name Yung Star he began writing rhymes. Combining a strong work ethic with aggressive self-promotion, the 16-year-old convinced the Math Line label to take him on, even if it was just of odd jobs around the office. With in-house producer Square Route The 1999 album Yung Azmar was supposed to drop, but when Piff found him self on a dark road in the gang life he got shout over the killing of a best friend. With getting hit in the waste with a .25, there was no release.
That same year, he officially took the moniker Yung Piff, dropping the “Star” from his name in order to separate himself from the others in New England. He joined A.O. , Free , & Wilbz for another Fresh project, the rap group they called the Negro League, who has yet to release a cd but a bunch of songs have been made , in 2002. Three years later, Yung Piff & AO would change the name to Chase Boyz a distribution team with the adding’s of “D’Swizzil” , “Yung Feddie” , “Jroca” , “LZ” , “Christina” & “Geige” and forming the group “FlyGirls”. The “ChaseBoyz” album “The Arrival” That has been pushed back was set out to be the first album/mixtape dropped by the label mates. In 2002, Yung Piff would appear on Boston’s R&B Princess Rose’s hit single “Meet Me,” as it appeared on “Rose’s album. Piff would sign a group deal with well known group “The Funk B’s” also known as “ Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch” featuring the hit single track “4 Seasons” along side label mate “Avalanche” Album was crazy but never released and label split up. But the rapper was still unknown to Eastern America, since his versatile rhymes and the rough southern sound had not yet crossed over. He kept working on more songs till he couldn’t count how many songs he hade. Album, “New Money New Mew” (2005), failed to lunch as a album so “Piff” released it as a mixtape selling over 3,000 copies the success of its sales, and with writeing most the songs on the “Funk B’s” come back album “Still Standing,” his audience was certainly growing. While “Scoutt Ross” was tring to launch there career, “Piff” was now much closer to “Scoutt’s” fellow producer for the album “D Sharp” When “Piff” left the label, he returned back to “Chase Boyz” as CEO by releasing a mixtape with a title much hotter than “Funk B’s” breakthrough effort, “Mr. Lair Jet” landed in 2007 and, rumors began flying about “Piffs” court troubles and possible jail time for something he did not do. The rest of the “Chase Boyz” had supported “Piff” but album was scrapped, coming out instead as an album but as a underground mixtape.
Piff became enamored with the mixtape world after “Im Doing Me vol. 2” drew so much attention from the hip-hop Crowed. He used these underground releases to drum up anticipation for his next official album, the breakthrough effort “Love Hitchhike” Releasing in 2011, the album having different production on it, and the rhymes he laid on the tracks showed significant growth. His marketing skills had become sharper, too, and it was no mistake that the album’s hit single, “There For Me,” mentioned “New Englands” greatest out break radio single. It reached a number of citys, Piff had officially crossed over. On the flip side, his street cred was supported by popular DJ’s such as “DJ “Wally Sparks” and “DJ Effekt”. Chase Boyz future was no longer in doubt and traditional music business rules no longer seemed to apply, as tracks would be leaked onto the Internet and various DJ’s mixtapes.
“Love Hitchike” was promised for 2010 summer release but pushed back to summer 2011, setting off Piff’s infamous reputation of delayed releases. Part of the problem became unauthorized leaks of the CD’s tracks, something combated by the official, downloadable EP “My Lil White Girl” released 20010. Becoming the number one song on face book made by “T-Pain’s “I AM T-PAIN” app. On the I-Phone. Selling over 300 copies in its first week of release Unconcerned, Piff & AO Change the name of the lable forged ahead with “Impervious Records” getting ready to release Yung Piff’s first album ever “Love Hitchhike” summer 2011.
