In other words, it’s really all… I thought it would be a good idea to take a few minutes to tell you a little bit about Calvary Emerald Coast. Calvary is all about who Jesus is, what Jesus has done and what His finished work on the cross means to us. In other words, it’s really all about Jesus! Our focus is not on religion, but instead on a relationship with the Lord. Our desire is to set aside the things that truly don’t matter and to focus on what truly does. Therefore our main priorities could be summed up as follows:
To Worship the LORD.
To Love People (including those who don’t love us)
To know why we believe what we believe. In other words study the Bible…a lot!
A typical Sunday service at Calvary will include an uninterrupted time of praise and worship followed by a time of Bible study. Generally you won’t hear topical studies at Calvary because our focus is on teaching verse by verse chapter by chapter through books of the Bible. All are welcome at Calvary. We do NOT place a high priority on clothing styles or other externals. We tend to tell people “come as you are because Jesus isn’t concerned with your outward appearance Jesus is concerned with your heart. He loves you whether you are wearing flip flops and a t-shirt or a suit and tie.” So, when you come to Calvary you have the opportunity to worship with a wide variety of people from all different backgrounds and age groups. Many of them have never been involved in church before and many others have grown up in very traditional (not necessarily Biblical settings) and have made their way to Calvary after being a bit disillusioned by the heavy emphasis on the “outside of the cup” rather than the “inside of the cup.”
We do not consider ministry to be something that simply happens within the walls of a church building. Instead we see ministry as what happens when Christians take the love of Jesus Christ with them into their homes, neighborhoods, schools, and the workplace.
Jesus said: "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31,32)
Our desire is to see people set free from the bondage of religion to simply enjoy a wonderful, radical, relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ and to see them grow in the LORD so that they too can share the good news with others.
