      Belmont Addison Peregrines

      OFF AIR

Peregrine, Falcons, Belmont, Addison, Lake Shore Drive, Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Chicago

I live in Lakeview on Belmont near Lake Shore Drive. Over the past couple of years, I have had a falcon come sit on my balcony. Sometimes the falcon would sit in the planter on the railing. Sometimes it would dig a little divot in the dirt. After week or two it would move on and I would plant basil or something in the divot. This year in March, two falcons came by.

The two of them together were much more territorial. They took over the balcony. One or the other was on the balcony almost all the time. If I was sitting outside, they would fly up and stand on the railing and just stare at me until I went inside. I was interested to see what would happen next. I pretty much ceded the balcony to them.

This week, I went out there and saw that in the planter on the railing, where they had dug their divot, there were three brown eggs. It was about five seconds before the falcons came back and shooed me back indoors.

I am staying out of their way and hoping that they avoid disturbing the neighbors.
