At the outset of his presidency, Obama may well be labeled ‘The Artists President.’ As the author of two best-selling books – Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope – Barack Obama uniquely appreciates the role and value of creative expression. Observing that our nation’s creativity has filled the world’s libraries, museums, recital halls, movie houses, and marketplaces with works of genius, he agrees that the arts embody the American spirit of self-definition.
During their campaign, Obama and Biden ran on a platform in support of the arts and pledged to:
- Reinvest in Arts Education
- Expand Public/Private Partnerships Between Schools and Arts Organizations
- Create an Artist Corps
- Publicly Champion the Importance of Arts Education
- Support Increased Funding for the NEA
- Promote Cultural Diplomacy
- Provide Health Care to Artists
- Ensure Tax Fairness for Artists
The Art of Change Inaugural Ball – Los Angeles celebrates this new spirit in our government. The producers of the Ball purposely kept ticket prices low ($10) to encourage an inclusive celebration.
The Mutaytor is part hip-grinding electronic-retro-funk, part audience-interactive post-modern circus. The act takes drastically advanced elements of the Grateful Dead, Parliament-Funkadelic, the Crystal Method, Louis Prima and Blue Man Group and throws them directly at the audience as riotous surreal entertainment notable for "turning Civilians into Rockstars." The sound is tight, the show manic, the vibe all-inclusively friendly. They are on stage, above the audience, IN the crowd. There's nothing like the Mutaytor in show business today and they'll probably have to spin off parts of itself in order to have any competition in the future.
Motion Potion aka Robbie Kowal is one of the Bay Area's hardest working, most innovative, and versatile DJs. Alternately called the DJ for people who hate DJs (SF Weekly) and the "Swiss Army DJ," he seems to have something for everyone. Funk impresario, mashup enthusiast, and live collaborator with such bands as Parliament-Funkadelic, the Mutaytor and Galactic, his career has been defined by an attempt to break down genre and scene barriers, playing every conceivable kind of music in the course of a night, a set, or a seven-minute mash-up. His own mix CD's range wider than most label's catalogs; live mixes that range from underground hip hop to electronic breaks to world fusion to rare southern rock. Legends such as Isaac Hayes, Dr John, and Maceo Parker have all called upon “Mopo” to open their shows and rock their set-breaks.
DJ Wolfie headlines parties from coast to coast, both in mainstream venues and the underground circuit. In 2008 he played at Coachella Music Festival on the bill with Prince and Roger Waters, at The Optimus Alive festival in Portugal with Rage Against the Machine, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, and at The All Points West Festival in New York with Radiohead, Underworld, and Jack Johnson. His music features a broad range of funky tunes with ass shaking beats. He throws some of the wildest invitation-only events in Los Angeles, regularly packing in 1000 or more people to artistically fueled musical extravaganzas.

Electric Car -
Rev. Gadget and the full-function, plug-in Battery Electric Vehicle (EV), the Ecolectrica Speedster/EV will be present at the Art of Change Inaugural Ball. Come see this beautiful and amazingly efficient vehicle in person and meet the inventor. Discover the economical and environmentally friendly advantages derived from owning a freeway capable, electric drive car with a 140 mile range and sports car performance.
Gadget and the converted Speedster/EV are featured in Chris Paine's upcoming new film "Revenge of the Electric Car" along with the new Tesla Roadster (world's fastest electric production car) and the forthcoming GM Chevrolet Volt (plug in hybrid).
Gadget also appeared in Chris's last documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car". The film, released by Sony Pictures Classics, was one of the most successful documentaries of the last few years. In addition to winning awards at festivals around the world, it has become a widely quoted touchstone for the new generation of renewable energy and alt-fuel vehicles. The LA Times refers to it as "the Citizen Kane" of the electric car movement.
Rev. Gadget Bio: [www.leftcoastelectric.com]
Gadget, known from his season on Discovery Channel's show "Smash Lab" and "BIG" as well as "Monster House" began Left Coast Electric because of a passion for a cleaner, more self-reliant world. The idea for Left Coast Electric came when Gadget converted a BMW Motorcycle (seen on Discovery Channel's BIG, on the "Mega-Motorcycle" episode) to pure electric. This led to conversions of a 1972 Triumph Spitfire, and a 1962 Sunbeam Alpine.
Gadgets Electric Garage is a new pilot showing on Discovery Channel, in which Gadget has some fabulous guests and converts some beautiful classic cars into full electric, like Tommy Chong’s (Cheech and Chong) 1946 Oldsmobile “Ace” and as part of the show Anthony Kiedis's (Red Hot Chili Peppers) 1967 Green Camaro.
LA WEEKLY featured him as their cover story “Who’s resurrecting the Electric car?” in July, 2006 and KABC News, did a story on his conversions. He was also featured in "Who Killed the Electric Car" (Sony Picture Classics) and in the very anticipated sequel, "Revenge of the Electric Car."
Gadget’s passion and gift for problem-solving have placed him as a front runner in the race to make a greener world.
Approved/current Mutaytor info:
For a decade now, The Mutaytor has combined a cast of roughly two-dozen performers - currently an eleven-piece modern analog and electronic dance orchestra, plus a 15-member visual team - creating a rapid fire succession of futuristic vaudevillian theatre and choreographed dance acts, coupled with breathtaking feats of aerial performance, giant screen visuals and unique reinterpretations of the circus arts. The vibe is ecstatic, friendly and all-inclusive, and each show is an explosion of immersive, vivid art both on and off the stage.
Born in the Black Rock Desert at the Burning Man Arts Festival, the Mutaytor has gone on to record 3 critically acclaimed records, and performed to packed houses and giant festivals all over the country. Don't miss the must-see show of the year on this historic night."
