The culminating project of the Honors American Studies is a different challenge for each trimester of the year. In winter, the students conduct the trial of Sometimes a Great Notion. The Civil Disobedience Project happens in spring. In this case students are given a contemporary situation in which one or more injustices have taken place, and they are required to propose a just solution, negotiate for that solution, and prepare an effective plan for an act of civil disobedience that would leverage negotiation. The scenarios contain embedded injustices, ambiguous outcomes and various parties that could be held responsible for said injustices.
