As Ukraine is rocked by the largest protests in history since Orange Revolution, take a look through the eyes of a Ustream broadcaster as they record their nation’s history in live time. Here is a recap in video and pictures of the intense pro-EU demonstrations happening as we speak; as protesters march through Kiev in protest of President Viktor Yanukovich’s refusal to sign an EU trade deal.
Protesters, Police Clash in Ukraine Amid Massive Pro-EU Demonstration
As a swarm of police invaded the thousands of Ukranian protestors before his very eyes, citizen broadcaster Aronets realized he had to take action. With no TV station crew or news reporters in sight, the world sat unaware as a nation demanded change from their government, and faced fierce retaliation. Before your imagination takes this story into Rambo mode, or any McGyver tactics to save the day, Aronets utilized a device each of use in our everyday lives (sorry James Bond). By simply using his smart phone and the Ustream Broadcaster App, Aronets placed a bright spotlight on the political unrest currently escalating in the Ukraine. LIVE. Before you scoff at the notion of live news, remove from your mind the traditional image of a rain soaked TV reporter being whisked away by strong storm winds. Thanks to technology, and the power of social media, not only can breaking events spread quickly via word of mouth, we now have the privilege to witness history through the eyes of the common man. In real time. This unprecedented, instantaneous access to the world is a concept assisting citizens of various nations, by giving transparency to their plights for democracy.

Last week Ustream’s SVP of Marketing, David Thompson, and the Vice President of Digital & TV Entertainment at Emmis NY, Lin Dai, hosted a workshop at PRSA’s 2013 International Conference in Philadelphia titled “Live Video Meets PR and Advertising: How to Extend Your Reach and Win New Customers.” It became clear during the workshop that publicists are interested in integrating live video into their publicity plans, but many of them either didn’t know where to start, or they already had a plan, but weren’t sure how to get the best ROI. Integrating video into your B2B and B2C plans has been such a hot topic lately; we’re fielding inquiries like these more and more lately. Starting Tuesday, November 14th, Explore.org will bring Ustream viewers an intimate look at a bunch of seemingly cuddly (and might we add lethal) polar bears from Wapusk National Park in Cape Churchill, Canada. The bears traditionally gather there starting in October, waiting for enough ice to form in the Hudson Bay so they can feast on fat, juicy seals for the winter. However, ice melt due to rising global temperatures has been the single greatest threat to their survival. Explore, in partnership with Polar Bears International and Frontiers North, hope that revealing the bears in their natural habitat and exposing them to a worldwide audience will inspire people to become involved in preservation and ensure the continued survival of these arctic giants.
Got questions? Daily moderated chats with polar bear experts will take place between 10am PT and 1pm PT, so be sure to tune in daily right here.
