Shave your head for charity – Viral game captured on Ustream

Posted on by

Gary Vaynerchuk didn’t become huge on accident, everything was calculated and intelligently planned out. He is the example of a pro social marketer, a person who creates buzz without even spending a dollar on ads. Gary is a genius.

The day before yesterday, Gary woke up and shaved his head live on Ustream. The viewers went nuts. Now, your average Ustreamer would stop there and call it a day, maybe quietly complain that he has a shaved head – Not Gary though, he turned it into a game.

In this video you see Gary challenging Kevin Rose to shave his head. If he does it Gary will donate $300 to a charity of Kevin’s choice. Kevin then has the power to call out the next soon-to-be-bald contestant.Kevin Rose took the challenge…live on Ustream as well.
In front of 1000 people, the god of Digg shaved his head. The recorded video was so ridiculous that it later made the front page of Digg with over 2500 diggs. Ridiculous!

Digg Town Hall Numero 2 Went GREAT!

Posted on by

Kevin Rose and Jay Adelson.

Yes a dog kept running back and forth behind them, yes they were drinking soda instead of their usual imported beers, and YES they both matched at the beginning of the Town Hall…

BUT!

They had a great Town Hall. They answered tons of questions and enjoyed themselves throughout. It looks easy, but lets give them a round of applause, or at least a golf clap as you sit there behind your computer screen. Bravo Digg, Bravo.

If you missed the recording, I included the embed below. Enjoy :)

Like last time – The leaders of everyone’s favorite social news site, Digg.com, will get on camera to answer questions from the masses. Wondering if Digg will ever change their colors to black and blue? Ask them. Want to know how they made that sweet lip dub video? Ask them! Trying to figure out that new algorithm still? Well…you can try asking but I doubt they’ll tell you the secret :)

Tune in this Monday at 5pm PST to witness one of the most innovative Q-and-A sessions you’ve ever seen. They’re on the cutting edge of ingenuity when it comes to community management and we’re honored that they chose us as their communication tool. So – enjoy this Town Hall, because the last one was great, this one will be awesome, and the next one will be even better :)

Digg Townhall: Lights! Camera! Cold Beer! Action!

Last night, a contingent of the Ustream.TV team was lucky enough to visit the Digg offices in San Francisco to set up the live stream for their first townhall. The blogsphere was buzzing up a blizzard for this momentous occasion, and sure enough, over 8,000 unique viewers (with up to 2,300 concurrent viewers) tuned in live for Kevin Rose and Jay Adelson’s hour+ session. Watch the archived replay here:

Kevin and Jay ran through the top 20 “dugg” questions, as submitted and voted by Diggers specifically for this event. They certainly didn’t shy away from any of the questions, announcing plenty of exciting upcoming product launches, readily acknowledging current shortcomings, and directly addressing (and debunking) the “blacklist” and auto-bury” rumors that had been flying around.

While there were plenty of product specific answers, I was personally fascinated by Kevin and Jay’s anecdotes harkening back to the (relatively) early days of the company. According to Kevin himself, it wasn’t too long ago that he was personally staying up late, trolling submissions for spam and other unacceptable content. Brad and I can certainly recount parallels to Ustream, perhaps with an even fresher memory. It is interactive townhalls like these that remind us that the websites we all know and love is not just an impersonal interface, but a construction of hardworking human beings doing their best to serve their diverse, passionate community.

I should also mention that Kevin and Jay make for an entertaining pair, even as they maneuvered through the technical minutiae of product development and user experience. We certainly look forward to more of Jay and Kevin on live broadcast!

Rest assured, Jay, Kevin and the rest of the Digg team have plenty more townhalls and meetups in store. Be sure to visit http://digg.com/townhallfor updates and video archives.

And you know we couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to take pics!
