As the presidential elections makes its steady march through the primaries, the viability of candidates take on a quantifiable momentum, producing breakthrough campaign activity both tragic and triumphant. Today, the Ustream community witnessed both extremes of the spectrum, live and in the moment.
Rudy Guiliani officially announced his withdrawal from the White House race, and thanks to our friends at Politico, we saw it all live from a front row seat at the press conference.
Giuliani coupled his exit announcement with an endorsement of fellow Ustreamer — and presidential candidate — John McCain.
On the democratic side of the campaign aisle, the Ustream community saw not one, but TWO speeches from Ustreamer – and presidential candidate — Barack Obama. Bouyed by his big win in South Carolina, Obama delivered a rousing speech to a massive rally in Denver, featuring Caroline Kennedy, before video-conferencing a talk with a Baptist organization. Barack’s team made sure to deliver both events live over Ustream.TV.
Political news junkies take note – when we say “LIVE” update we actually mean it. Here’s to the next President of the United States, whichever Ustreamer it turns out to be!
For those of you who haven’t heard, Chuck Norris is publicly supporting Gov. Mike Huckabee for President. This weekend to show his support for Huck, Chuck threw a virtual BBQ to help raise money for the Huckabee campaign.
Supporters were able to get a private tour of Chuck Norris’ ranch and home, as well as attend the BBQ. Governor Huckabee’s band, “Capital Offense” even made a special appearance to play live.

Wow. Ustream.TV experienced the phenomena of Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus first hand tonight.
Thousands of fans from across the country came to Ustream to catch a glimpse and see the red carpet event for Miley’s new movie “HANNAH MONTANA & MILEY CYRUS: BEST OF BOTH WORLDS CONCERT.” Shot during Cyrus’ 69-city tour and exhibited in state-of-the-art Disney Digital 3D™, the film will be coming to theaters for a special one week engagement on February 1, 2008.
Red Carpet VIPs from the film we saw live were: Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, director Bruce Hendricks, producer Art Repola, concert tour producer Kenny Ortega and executive producer Douglas C. Merrifield.
Red Carpet Special Guests: Ashley Tisdale, Jim Belushi, Donny Osmond, Harry Hamlin, Lisa Rinna, Madison Pettis, Rick Fox, Rob Morrow, Tony Plana, and Vanessa Williams.
This almost reminds me of the craze of Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley. This girl is a star.
Last night was one of the most active political nights I have ever seen on Ustream to date. The results of Iowa Caucuses came in throughout world of new media last night, and Ustream was no exception.
Probably the most interesting live stream was by the Politico.com, a political organization started in early 2007. James Kotecki, a video blogger who does Politico’s PlaybookTV videos, gave great play by play coverage from Iowa Caucus Media Center as the results came in. It was a simple setup: laptop, EVDO card, built in webcam and Ustream by a guy who had opinions and understands the dynamics. This is New Media at its finest.
Two major Republican candidates streamed their post Iowa Caucus press conferences live on Ustream. Republican Senator John McCain was the first of the evening streaming live from New Hampshire to his supporters in Iowa and across the country.
Watch the full video here: McCain Iowa Caucus Speech.
Republican Governor Mitt Romney streamed his post Iowa speech live on Ustream as well. Gov. Romney placed second in the Iowa Caucus telling supporters they got the silver, but will get the gold in New Hampshire.
The next major caucus night is New Hampshire and we expect another great, interactive night!
Welcome to 2008! And Wow, what a way to end the year!!
Last night Ustream was BY FAR the most happening place on the web to celebrate 2007 and the arrival of 2008.
Tens of thousands of you joined the numerous live concerts, events, podcasts and celebrations with us. I know I personally had a blast.
The highlight of the night was Rock legend Paul Rodgers LIVE in Concert. This was brought to Ustream by our friends at EQ.TV and it was a smash hit. We saw unreleased concert footage and a special interview live with the former Bad Company lead singer.
Congressman Dennis Kucinich also celebrated with Ustream bringing us his “Resolution For Peace” event. Numerous bands and artists performed for his supporters around the country in preparation for the Iowa primaries.
We were also treated with several hours of great Salsa dance and music by Salsaunlimited.com!
Playcafe.com hosted a special New Year’s Eve gameshow. Playcafe is the internet’s first live gameshow on the net. Viewers get to answer a series of questions to win prizes. I’ve played a few times and its a blast!
Finally, the great people at SQPN (www.sqpn.com) did a New Year’s Eve podcasting marathon to raise money for their 2008 events. From my understanding they raised $14,000 in donations yesterday alone! Fr. Roderick and Greg Willits congrats!
From all the people at Ustream, we wish you a happy and wonderful new year!
Presidential candidate Governor Mitt Romney spoke Friday to his supporters in Iowa via Ustream. Gov. Romney was joined by his wife Ann Romney during the webcast. Gov. Romney appealed to his base in Iowa asking for a hard push in the final days to the Iowa primary. The primaries are Jan 3rd and critical for both Democratic and Republican front runners.

This is the second major appearance by Governor Romney on Ustream. His “Faith In America” speech streamed live through Ustream reached thousands during the live feed and so far the recorded video has almost 420,000 views. George H. Bush gave the opening remarks from his Presidential Library near Texas A&M. If Gov. Romney wins the election, this speech will be seen as the critical speech of his campaign.
If you missed it, watch it here.

With the Iowa primaries quickly closing in, Presidential candidates are all gunning for Iowa. Every presidential candidate in some form has been live on Ustream, many speaking directly with voters through our chat.
On January 1st at 7:30 pm CST, Governor Huckabee will speak directly to supporters and voters across the nation live exclusively on Ustream.TV.
He will brief them on the campaign in Iowa as well as nationally and also encourage Iowans to vote for him in the Caucus taking place on the January 3rd. Chuck Norris will also address viewers on the campaign. The famed Texas Ranger has publicly supported Mike Huckabee by campaigning with him around the country.
This is Mike Huckabee’s 2nd Ustream appearance (see first appearance here: Erin Moriarty talks to Mike Huckabee about domestic issues at the IAMAW staff conference.) and Chuck Norris’ first.

Good Luck Todd!
Why is an organization based in New York so interested in preserving New Hampshire’s first in-the-nation presidential primary?
“New Hampshire is the only state in the nation where the average American, who is passionate about their country’s policies and has a dream of running for president of the United States, still has the opportunity to campaign and be heard,†says Greg Larkin from Initiatives for Empowerment (I4E), a non profit organization based in Harlem.
I4E is inviting all Democrats who have filed for the New Hampshire Presidential Primary to participate in this three-part debate series that will take place at MCAM and will be broadcast live beginning this Thursday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.
The discussion will center on social, financial and foreign policy issues, and the panel will be made up of teachers, bankers and service people. Mike Gravel and Henry Hewes, among others, will be attending all three debates. Future debates are scheduled
for Thursday, Dec. 27 and Thursday, Jan. 3.
What I love about debates like this, is that it gives the lesser known guys the opportunity for a national stage all made possible by Ustream’s free, global platform. Mike Gravel has already been snubbed before by mainstream media. Did you know there are like 45 candidates actually running for President? I know I didn’t.
Be sure to check out tonights debates by visiting here:
We had a great interactive week at Ustream! In partnership with meebo.com, numerous major artists chatted with with their fans live on Ustream.TV.
First was Chingy, then Steph Jones, and finally Lansdowne (ADDED: I forgot A Fine Frenzy!). I love seeing artists stepping out to interact with the very people who have made them successful. And guess what, from what I’ve seen the Artists are LOVING chatting with their fans. Just about every artist we have watched had to be pulled off the chat…. Interaction is everything. They are starting to get it.
The walls between celebrities and the public continue to come down. I had a great discussion with Mark Rizzn from Mashable.com on this topic earlier in the week. Getting the labels to this point has been slow, but the live interactive experiences with the artists have been so powerful that it was WELL worth the wait.
Miss the live chats? Watch the replays!
