Today we’re marking another company milestone with the launch of the Ustream Android Viewer beta, the first live viewing application for the Android platform, which enables users to watch any Ustream show on Wifi or 3G.
From Shakira’s new music video, 50 Cent’s movie screening, the Twilight: New Moon Red Carpet premiere, and tonight’s concert with KISS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the premium, entertaining content Ustream has come to represent is now available on Android devices, and is available for free download in the Android Market. Watch any Ustream show from anywhere!
This is our second application for the Android platform, as we launched the Ustream Android Broadcaster several weeks ago, enabling users to stream live from their phones on 3G or Wifi. We recently made an updated version — check it out. The Android Viewer provides chat and functionality with Android 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 platform devices.
The combination of Viewer and Broadcaster on Android allows the first mobile-to-mobile functionality available on the market.

Thanks for these free apps on Android! I would be pleased to pay a fee for them — especially if it helps you improving them. “Open source” does not necessarily mean “free lunch”
As far as I am concerned, the Broadcaster works quite well but I don’t know how to handle the chat and could not find any help in the application or elsewhere. Is there a dedicated help site, FAQ or forum out there yet?
The Viewer is still a work in progress. Many live streams don’t work (the video format is not recognized) and even on a strong Wifi connection, when they do work, streams are intermittent (works for 2 seconds, is freezed for 5 seconds, works for 3 seconds, is freezed for…).
I’ve got a cool app which uploads & stream media via htc hero, because youtube app is not good enough with limits of size file etc..
Next ustream app should convert to HD streaming !!!
I downloaded the app from android market but can’t register. I was born in 1960. The registration screen won’t allow dates earlier than year 2000! what up wit dat?
I’ve downloaded the app to my HTC Hero (on Sprint). I try and watch the top viewed stream (SFShiba puppycam), and I get an error telling me this “video format of this show is not yet supported”. Pretty lame if you ask me, for the number one stream to be unavailable. I get audio, but no video.
