Product Launch: iPhone 3GS Recorder & the Media Stream!

iPhone RecorderGet the iPhone 3GS Recorder

We’re excited to announce the launch of our Recording App for the iPhone 3GS, now available for free in the Apple App Store! We’ve also added a new product to the site called the “Media Stream” that provides a real-time stream of tagged videos.

iPhone 3GS Recorder Application

The iPhone Recorder can syndicate videos to five points, maximizing viewership for iPhone videos: Ustream, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and Ustream on Facebook. The application allows users to record and store videos in high quality, even when not connected to the internet or on the 3G network.

Media Stream

The Media Stream provides broadcasters with the ability to aggregate content on their show page from other Ustream users, based on a certain topic (hashtag). For example imagine you’re watching a conference stream with the hashtag “#CoolConference”, and someone in the crowd just uploaded a video from their iPhone and put “#CoolConference” in the video title. That video would pop up below the player you are watching – in the Media Feed – allowing you to see an entirely different part of the conference.

Each show has a hashtag associated with it – all a user needs to do to send a video to that show is include the show’s hashtag in their video title (example: Teaching my dog some tricks! #doggycam). The broadcaster can edit their hashtag from the “Your Shows” page under “Media Stream”.

The broadcaster can accept videos from everyone and manually approve them for his show page, or the broadcaster can approve certain users ahead of time so that their videos will go straight to the Media Stream. This is managed from the “Your Shows” page under “Media Stream”.

A new section has been added directly below the player on the show page that displays the newest videos in the Media Stream. When new videos are recorded they will appear in the Media Stream in real time, allowing viewers to quickly find them.

Will Ustream Broadcaster on 3GS 3.0 be fixed?
Maybe you can’t answer publicly but many of us would like to know even if by direct private communication.

  4. John Gardner says:

Why don ‘ t you “get excited” about fixing your iPhone viewer app
3gs. How many million people have to tell you “no damn picture” just
audio. Is this your fault or Apple. How about a little thing called a”press
release” to give 3gs users some info?
    The world is waiting.

  5. Brad Hunstable says:

    @John

We are not the hold up, but waiting for Apple’s approval. It has been many weeks.

    We are hoping approval anyday.

  6. Coolkid says:

  7. Matt says:

Any chance of getting a DVR type function so you could set ustream to record at specific times?

    Very exciting stuff!

  10. Todd Walker says:

The iPhone app is excellent but why doesn’t it rotate the video properly if you record in landscape orientation?

  11. Michael says:

Hashtag? Seriously? Come up with your own ideas and stop trying to piggy-back off of Twitter.

Yes i have a problem with this as well ..

  13. MARKIE.D says:

WHAT ABOUT THE IPHONE 3G.? CAN DEV-TEAM PUT IT BACK IN CYDIA.? PLEASE.

  14. George says:

Is there a way to broadcast LIVE video in real time?

  15. cseeman says:

George, not from the iPhone at the moment. The Ustream Broadcasting app on Cydia crashed on the iPhone 3GS. Ustream hasn’t said anything about fixing it . . . although I’ve asked.

I understand they may have to be careful about any public reply but if they’re going to kill it they should say that.

For the above reasons I’m tied to Livestream at the moment because the Cydia Qik app sends to that CDN live.

I’ve sent emails to Ustream asking about iPhone 3GS Broadcasting and even offered to sign an NDA if needed but they have not responded to my inquiries.

Many of us are asking so they’re obviously aware of the demand. Their silence is disturbing though.

  18. Maurício says:

I want to make live broadcasts from my iPhone 3GS! Send me an email when you get this done!

  19. Why try to extend Ustream into new areas before fixing the major flaws with existing services? Why not start with core usability issues?

Still fighting with your users over simple color theory problems? Yes.

Large portions of Ustream are unusable by the 10% of American men with some form of colorblindness. Unprofessional.

  20. pyrillix says:

I agree Ustream should stop all further developement work in all areas and fix this problem with Protanopia, Deuteranopia, and Tritanopia, no matter what it costs. And fix everything else for the small percentage of pc’s out there that dont work right with ustream, (I although works perfect for me) After all viewers pay for everything on this site..
What, they don’t, you mean its free, oops! never mind..

  21. cseeman says:

Please fix Ustream Broadcaster in Cydia to work with iPhone 3GS.
Please fix Ustream Player in the AppStore to work with iPhone 3GS.

Please respond to support inquiries about Ustream Broadcaster for iPhone 3GS.

  24. Greg says:

I too would like to know why the iPhone app doesn’t rotate the video correctly when you shoot horizontally. That is more of the correct aspect ratio, right? When you post to Facebook, the content is rotated. Please let me know if there is a fix for this or if it will be fixed.
