The Ustream Viewing Application hit the App Store on the night before
the Presidential Inauguration and by the next morning, iPhone and iPod
Touch owners downloaded it in record numbers. On day one, the Viewing Application
soared to the #1 spot on Apple’s Entertainment section and the #4 spot among all of the thousands of free applications in the App Store with more than 214,000 downloads … and this all happened
in less than 48 hours.
The enthusiasm for the Inauguration of President Barack Obama translated
into a record-breaking day for live streams on Ustream – both online and
on mobile. We received tremendous feedback from the iPhone community
about watching this historic event:
“I watched on Ustream (computer, not iPhone), and not only was it smooth, but it was actually a split second ahead of my television.” – James
“I watched on my iPhone, and was amazed at how good it looked!” – Megan
“I watched Ustream on my iPhone from Paris, no problem, best stream from all of ‘em.” – Sammy
Thanks again for making us #1 in the App Store. Stay tuned for updates on the next version.
Today proved to be historic not only for the inauguration of our 44th president, but also because it was an amazing day for Ustream!
It was the biggest day Ustream has seen since the Election on Nov. 4, surpassing our record of one million streams for one event. What’s more, Ustream had hundreds of separate inauguration-related streams. Our streams were conversational and niche, with hosted professional streams as well as user-generated broadcasts. We had our personal best today, so why not brag alittle?
- Ustream powered more than an estimated 3.8 million streams today
– 400,000 concurrent people were watching Inauguration events at any given moment during the speech and swearing in. - Tens of thousands watched live on the iPhone
The Ustream iPhone Viewing Application is now available in the Apple App Store.
The Ustream iPhone Viewing Application was pending approval from Apple and was approved in time for the inauguration. Now any iPhone owner can watch the inauguration from their iPhone. Presently, the Ustream iPhone Viewing Application is WiFi only to ensure the highest quality broadcast on the iPhone, but stay tuned for developments.
“Ustream is excited to join the app store and bring a great application to the iPhone. Now iPhone users can watch and chat with any Ustream show directly from their iPhone. So now, wherever you are, you can be part of the global community around shared live experiences.” John Ham, Founder and CEO of Ustream
“The Ustream iPhone Application is a major advance in bringing the full power of the internet to mobile phones. Now anyone can watch everything from Taylor Swift concerts to your out of town high school football game live on the iPhone.” Brad Hunstable, Founder and President of Ustream
“Ustream has developed a technically amazing application for the iPhone. The iPhone has an amazing viewing experience and is a great platform for showcasing the Ustream experience. It was a pleasure developing an application for the iPhone and the Apple developer support was amazing.” Dr. Gyula Feher, Founder and Head of Technology of Ustream
Live event coverage from Downtown LA at the beautiful Mayan featuring a full live theatrical performance by The Mutaytor, and special guest performance by The Crystal Method, as well as DJ Motion Potion, DJ Wolfie.
As seen in Techcrunch , Ustream has developed an application for the 3G iphone that allows you to watch Ustream anywhere w/everyone. Regardless of where you are at and what you are doing, you can choose to be in the moment with others in a shared live experience around a live event. If you are out-on-the-town and know that a guest speaker at a major conference is “going live” and want to watch live and be-in-the-crowd, then you can with this application.
