The Ustream iPhone Viewing Application is now available in the Apple App Store.
The Ustream iPhone Viewing Application was pending approval from Apple and was approved in time for the inauguration. Now any iPhone owner can watch the inauguration from their iPhone. Presently, the Ustream iPhone Viewing Application is WiFi only to ensure the highest quality broadcast on the iPhone, but stay tuned for developments.
“Ustream is excited to join the app store and bring a great application to the iPhone. Now iPhone users can watch and chat with any Ustream show directly from their iPhone. So now, wherever you are, you can be part of the global community around shared live experiences.” John Ham, Founder and CEO of Ustream
“The Ustream iPhone Application is a major advance in bringing the full power of the internet to mobile phones. Now anyone can watch everything from Taylor Swift concerts to your out of town high school football game live on the iPhone.” Brad Hunstable, Founder and President of Ustream
“Ustream has developed a technically amazing application for the iPhone. The iPhone has an amazing viewing experience and is a great platform for showcasing the Ustream experience. It was a pleasure developing an application for the iPhone and the Apple developer support was amazing.” Dr. Gyula Feher, Founder and Head of Technology of Ustream
The application can be downloaded at this iTunes link: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=301520250&mt=8

Umm can u make this for the Itouch too
January 19th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
Why do not work with iTouch? If you need Wifi, doesn’t matter if you have iPhone or iTouch.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
I new it sounded 2 good 2 be true. WiFi ONLY!!!!!!!!
January 19th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
It works on iPod Touch, I’m using it right now.
Great job, Ustream!
January 19th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
have the iphone app, where do u find the inauguration channel?
January 19th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
its only compatible with 2nd Gen. ipod touch! what the heck. It won’t sync on my 1st Gen. ipod touch. Why???? Please make it compatible with 1st gen. ipod touch.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Very cool! Looking forward to using it.
So when can we stream live?
January 19th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Great Job!!! WOW! Very Cool, thanks!
January 19th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
That’s right. Just for 2nd generation.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
I also would like to use this app on my 1st gen iPod touch. Please don’t lock us out.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
You are absolute idiots for not making this app to work on the iPod Touch. Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! I’m disgusted! I’ve monitored the app store all day in anticipation of this app only to be screwed.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
When will the app be working on 3G???
January 19th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
So what’s the point? I don’t have wifi @ work….why can’t I use my 3G??? This is useless!
January 19th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Why the bloody hell will it not work with the first Gen iPod touch. Basterds.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Why does this app not work on the iPod Touch 1G? Why? Why? Why? I was very excited about this app but this really disappoints me.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
I added it with iTunes and was able to successfully sync it to my 1st generation Touch. It’s running now. Either they fixed it or I was lucky. Add app through iTunes and sync immediately.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Works nicely with iPhone
Some shows do a lot of buffering though. Can’t say its my internet – it works fine on desktop.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
THIS APP IS BRILLIANCE!
January 19th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
not working with my 1st gen touch. I deleted and redownloaded — current ustreamtv is version 1.0.2. Also tried direct download from Apps on iPod (version 1.0) I have software version 2.2. @Bruce Turner. What are your specs?
January 19th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
gosh, i bet you’re thrilled to have worked so diligently on this FREE app only to have everyone immediately commence bitchfest.
it’s cool. thanks. look forward to updates.

January 19th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
nope, I guess version 1.0.2 is the iPod, the ustreamtv is only v. 1.0
January 19th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
The version accessed through the itunes store on my (G1) touch (with the latest firmware update) will not work. My regular computer is not working so I can’t use iTunes on it to get the alleged working version. Please sync up the two versions so I can download it on my G1 touch.
January 19th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
I don’t see what the Second Generation iPod touch has that the First Generation doesn’t. It has Wi-Fi so what’s the difference, I was really looking forward to this application only to be screwed over…
January 19th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
imh – I’m sure you are right that it’s cool – but how do we know that?
January 19th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
wifi only is weak!
If I need to be on a wi-fi network, I may as well watch it on a computer!
January 19th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Indeed… Wifi only is a big dissapointment… I look forward to version 2
January 19th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Great app! It took me a while to figure out that I need the headphones for sound, why is that?
I hope an upcoming version will make it easier to find stuff, I looked for “inauguration” under upcoming and Ustream found – nothing …
How can I access shows on the iPhone I’m “following” on the Website?
January 19th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Great job guys, this is an amazing app and I hope you recognize this astounding application. Can’t wait for updates , hopefully of which include 3G support.

Hey!!!! Nobody mentioned that it was only for iPhone!!! I would understand if it would use the 3G network, but the iPod touch also has Wi-Fi!!! And I wanted to see tomorrow events using the app but I guess it´s not going to be available for the iPod touch in only a few hours. a big boooooooooooo

January 20th, 2009 at 12:02 am
I installed the app on my iPhone 3G in the UK, and can get video fine, just no audio. I’ve tried a couple of feeds… is this an international issue? or just an issue with the feeds i’ve tried?
The feeds I tried have audio on the website, just not iphone.

Its not Ustreams falt!!!! AT&T wount let “Excessive data transfer” which is what this app does. SO its either wifi only, or apple would reject the app.
January 20th, 2009 at 4:34 am
I was excited about this app so I could watch the inauguration while working today. But WiFi only makes it a huge disappointment , because I won’t be near any WiFi hotspots.
And Tim: Orb streams over 3G. That is ‘excessive data transfer’. So 3G streaming can certainly be done via an approved app.
January 20th, 2009 at 4:50 am
I hate that it can only be used on WIFI.
I was so happy to see this, until I realized I only have WIFI at home and there I use my laptop.
Pointless if it cannot be use on AT&T 3G.
No matter I used Voip via jailbreak and now use WITHOUT wifi. As a matter if fact I will never turn on WIFI to piss off AT&T or Apple of both.
Can wait to sell my iPhone as soon a Google phone or something better comes along that will let you download any application.
I have a tilt and can use any app even skyfire to view ustream full website with all their videos. So if AT&T allow a windows mobile phones to sell that allow any application, then so should apple!!!!
January 20th, 2009 at 4:55 am
It’s not AT&T, it is apple.
You can buy a windows mobile phone like the AT&T Fuze right now that allow any application.
AT&T should not allow that if they care for streaming too much bandwidth.
ONLY APPLE IPHONE RESTRICTS APPLICATIONS, OF ALL AT&T PHONES!!!!!!!
January 20th, 2009 at 4:55 am
I take back what I said… It is now working on my First Generation iPod touch and kameko there is no need to buy the new iPod touch as it only has a speaker and some people don’t need a iPhone…

January 20th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Once again, UStream.tv promised much and delivered little.
For all of you who missed it because you were d*cking with this app, it should be available over the 3G network via YouTube soon.
January 20th, 2009 at 11:47 am
The application seems interesting and it has a lot of potential. However, there are some limitation that it would be good to see fixed soon in the next versions. This
- Very annoying: if left without interaction for more than a few minutes, the phone goes to sleep, the screen turns off and the audio goes away. The sleep function of the phone should be disabled by the application while it is running.
- Lack of full screen. I would like to be able to see the stream in full screen, not only in one little part of the screen. The sharing comments part is interesting, but I would like to be able to hide it when I am not interested.
- I am having a lot of problems in trying to register to ustream on the phone. I am getting errors about the correctness of the verification code that I entered. I tried multiple times.
- Several timeout problems while watching the stream. Every few minutes I need to reconnect to the CNN stream because I continuously get disconnected with timeout errors.
thanks,
mirko.

Great app! I know this is only version 1.0, and it might be a little too early to start making feature requests, but I’ll echo statements from others about the necessity for this to work over 3G. Also, a full-screen video feature would be great.
Also, I haven’t yet heard this mentioned, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to view password-protected streams in the app yet. I hope that’s something you’re working to build into a near-future release, as I have several private streams that I watch and administer, and this option would be vital to me actually using this app.
Again, thanks for bringing this to the iPhone!
January 20th, 2009 at 11:37 pm

but i was toled ppl can not chat in my chat,

another big bug is if you accidentally tap on chat link it will present you the login request page…now if you haven’t a login name or you don’t want to login , you cannot go back because there is no any button…the only way is to press the home button and then restart the application.
please fix it and should be a great app against mogulus and other site…

January 21st, 2009 at 5:08 pm
I just downloaded this fine app, and it works great. Note, I do have both audio and video.
However there are some bugs that need to be fixed as quickly as possible:
1. Noted above is the sleep function needs to be fixed. If I’m not paying attention, when the player goes to sleep the app dies. This is not the case with any other app that I have.
2. There really needs to be a favorites function. Whenever my player did go to sleep, causing the app to close, I had to go through the entire process of searching for it again.
3. I clicked the share button just to see what it does. It close the app and opens the email app. I then again have to go through the process of opening and searching for the station.

Im getting a connection error on my own stream but all other streams are ok, except for regular stopping and buffering

i was really excited to until i realized that in order to view your ustream broadcast it had to be on the popular or featured list. seems that you can’t even do a search for a live stream or type in the link directly even if you know what the address is. there is also no way to link to it from an email or website as the app does not open when you try to link, and even though it shows up on the upcoming/scheduled list you can’t follow or do anything with that section, only see what’s coming up.
hope they fix this soon.

I have a problem. I can hear the audio, but the video just shows static, or bits and pieces of a video or screen that I just viewed. Does anyone have this problem?

Enzo… I too have the same problem. I have a 3rd Gen iPod Touch. My husband has a 2nd Gen iPod Touch and the app works fine, but the same problem YOU have is what I’m encountering. Is there no fix for this??
