It all started 5 weeks ago, when a SF couple decided to setup a live puppy cam on Ustream. Ever since they hit the “broadcast now” button things have been interesting around the Ustream offices. Due to the “cuteness” of the puppies, the show, to quote NBC news anchor and managing editor Brian Williams, “has taken the web by storm.” 4 million people worldwide checked in on 6 of the most adorable puppies we’ve ever seen. It’s been remarkable to see how 6 little puppies have gotten so “big.”
The CNN segment is humorous. The Today Show segment is informative – make sure to watch!
Here are a few samples of their recent popularity:

What’s the big deal? I was doing this back in 1998 with a streaming webcam at the local SPCA Animal Shelter in San Francisco. I was the webmaster with KPIX TV The CBS Affiliate in San Francisco and setup a live Petcam in several of the dog, puppie, and cat rooms so viewers could tune in and see the animals and hopefully adopt them.
Next big thing please! Enough!

The big deal, Shawn, is that we can watch these puppies NOW. The economy wasn’t in the toilet 10 years ago and I didn’t need a fix of puppy sanity all day long. It doesn’t matter who invented what (after all, Al Gore invented the internets in the first place), it’s what is available when it’s needed. And right now, we need puppies! The only unfortunate part of this is that they are not pound puppies, which desperately need homes. These guys and gals obviously have it made.

Love these little doggies. Best part for me is when “Mom” spends time with them late in the evening. Somehow she manages to love them all and put them to sleep. Only problem is I am up until 2:00 a.m. here in the East but I can’t resist

I was feeling a little lost and bored after the election–I really needed a dose of puppy love! Thanks so much for sharing their lives with us…

SHAWN, SORRY, I CAN’T GET ENOUGH. WATCHING THESE PUPPIES ROMP IS A HAPPY EXPERIENCE, UNLIKE WATCHING THE EVENING NEWS OR REPEATS.
I LOVE THE LITTLE GIRL WITH THE YELLOW COLLAR. SHE IS DEFINITELY THE ALPHA PUP. I’VE WATCHED THEM ENOUGH TO SEE EACH OF THE SIX INDIVIDUAL PERSONALITIES. THEY ARE ADORABLE! WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE MOTHER.

We have a Shiba Inu and she has kept us entertained and on our toes for 5 years. When we found her at the local pet store we paid a premium price for chikara, only to find out that she had come from a puppy mill. Our sweet little girl is allergic to everything under the sun because of her breeding, and so we could not breed her as we intended. There is nothing like a little fluff of Shiba Inu….thank you for sharing with all of us. I absolutely adore the little black nosed boy and am happy to be one of the many millions that would love to give him a home.

Haha, it’s like that South Park episode where the news went up against the cute dog and puppy show.
