The Terrifying Side of Success

The launch of Ustream has exceeded all of our expectations in terms of traffic and usage.  We figured that launching would get us a little bit of attention, and jump start the growth of the site.

Instead, the overwhelming response has been taxing our infrastructure and keeping us working around the clock to add more capacity.  We certainly apologize for the growing pains.  We thought we had enough capacity to handle any reasonable scenario.  It just turns out that live video is unreasonably successful!

The late night heroics of the technical team should pay off today, as we triple our capacity.  And that should hold us for, oh, I don’t know, another couple of days?

But in the grand scheme of things, being too popular is a little like being too rich–it’s what we like to call a high grade problem.
