The beautiful and healthy animals playing here are just a few of the many dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens at North Shore Animal League America that are looking for permanent homes.

Headquartered in Port Washington, NY, the Animal League is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. The Animal League reaches across the country to rescue, nurture and adopt 20,000 pets into happy and loving homes each year. Since its inception in 1944, the Animal League has saved over 1,000,000 animals, and the organization continues to work tirelessly for a world that is free of cruelty and euthanasia.

In 2009, the Animal League created the Mutt-i-grees® Initiative to give a voice to the millions of shelter dogs in the United States, and rally animal lovers to help end animal cruelty and spread the message that adoption is the right choice. Today, Mutt-i-grees include all shelter pets – purebreds and mixed-breeds; puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats. And while their individuality makes each of these Mutt-i-grees special, they all share a common need to find permanent and loving homes.

An estimated 8-10 million animals enter shelters each year and most are healthy, affectionate and beautiful. Tragically, more than half of these animals are euthanized, the victims of overpopulated shelters.

Raising awareness of Mutt-i-grees can change the way cat and dog-loving Americans perceive shelter pets and ultimately save the lives of countless animals.

Thank you for adopting and saving a life!
